2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Mardine "Deenie" McReynolds; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Mardine McReynolds was born in East Chicago |
5 | | Heights (Ford
Heights) on March 23, 1947 to Marshall Berry and |
6 | | Odessa McReynolds; she attended Bloom Township High School in |
7 | | Chicago Heights and graduated from Northern Illinois |
8 | | University with a bachelor's
degree in education; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Mardine McReynolds began her teaching career at |
10 | | Eisenhower High School in Blue Island; she
worked at the |
11 | | University of Chicago, taught continuing education at South |
12 | | Suburban College, and then
joined the staff of the American |
13 | | College of Surgeons as a Human Resource Specialist, remaining |
14 | | there for many years; she
then returned to education as a music |
15 | | teacher at the Chicago International Charter School (CICS) in
|
16 | | Chicago; after retiring from CICS, she returned as a volunteer |
17 | | tutor
at the Pershing School in Chicago; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Mardine McReynolds came to Portland Street Church |
19 | | of God in Christ (now Goodwin Memorial Cathedral) at
the age of |
20 | | 14 months with her mother and remained there for more than 50 |
21 | | years; she served principally in the Sunday
School Department, |
22 | | starting out as a Sunday School teacher and then serving as |

1 | | Junior Sunday
School Superintendent; she worked in the field |
2 | | with other ministries to help them
grow and build, including |
3 | | Robinson Memorial A.M.E., New Original Church of God in Christ,
|
4 | | South Shore Community Church, and many more; she played the |
5 | | piano and had a beautiful
singing voice; she sang throughout |
6 | | her school years and was a member of the Kennedy-King
College |
7 | | Community Chorus, the Chicago Community Chorus, the National |
8 | | A.M.E. Conference
Choir, and many other choirs and singing |
9 | | groups; she was a frequent
soloist at churches and weddings and |
10 | | was well-known for her beautiful rendition of "The Lord's
|
11 | | Prayer"; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Mardine McReynolds was preceded in death by her |
13 | | father, Marshall, and her nephew, Larry; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Mardine McReynolds is
survived by her mother, |
15 | | Odessa; her 3 brothers, Marshall, James (LaQuetia), and Myron |
16 | | (Nancy);
her 2 sisters, Janis and Bettie; her 4 nephews, |
17 | | Terence, Marquis, Jonathan, and Chaz; her 5 nieces, Marcya, |
18 | | Dina, Sydney, Caroline, and Julia; her 8 great-nieces and |
19 | | nephews; her sister-in-law,
Esther; and several cousins, |
20 | | including Betty Jo Taylor and Ava Stewart; therefore, be it
|
21 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
22 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
23 | | Mardine "Deenie" McReynolds, and extend our sincere |
