2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Richard Nathan Horton of Maryville, who |
4 | | passed away on August 31, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Richard Horton was born on December 11, 1931 in |
6 | | East St. Louis; his parents were Homer and Dorothy (nee Miller) |
7 | | Horton; he married Marcella Jerome on September 16, 1952; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Richard Horton retired as a superintendent from |
9 | | the Ethyl Corporation in Sauget in 1994, after over 40 years of |
10 | | service; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Richard Horton was a stand-out baseball player for |
12 | | East St. Louis Senior High's class of 1949; he moved on to play |
13 | | in the old East St. Louis city leagues, where he was known for |
14 | | his power at the plate, arm strength, and overall speed; his |
15 | | athleticism led to signing with the St. Louis Cardinals farm |
16 | | system, where he played for 3 years until his commitment to his |
17 | | country; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Richard Horton honorably served for 4 years in the |
19 | | United States Navy aboard the USS Wasp, USS Champlain, and USS |
20 | | Boxer; and |
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Richard Horton was a member of SS. Peter and Paul |
2 | | Catholic Church in Collinsville; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Richard Horton was preceded in death by his |
4 | | parents; a brother, Robert A. Horton; and a sister, Betsy L. |
5 | | Horton; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Richard Horton is survived by his wife, Marcella; |
7 | | 6 children, Kenneth (Christine) Horton, Kelly (David) |
8 | | Stelmach, Patrick (Katherine Traubitz) Horton, Deborah |
9 | | (William) Moder, Stacie (Kim Castro) Horton, and Mary (Guy) |
10 | | Santen; 14 grandchildren, Jessica (Andrew) Ropicki, Lindsey |
11 | | (Aaron) Wise, Nathan (Anastasia) Horton, Stefanie (Daniel) |
12 | | Pier, Kendra Cunningham, Kyle (Katherine) Cunningham, Eric |
13 | | Shockley, Kimberly (Christopher Haas) Horton, Kayla |
14 | | (Christopher Jennings) Horton, Mariah, Ivy, and Libby Horton, |
15 | | and Kelley and Sarah Napier; and 13 great-grandchildren; |

19 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Richard Nathan Horton; |
