SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of  Donald R. Gronewold of Washington, who 
4passed away on August 25, 2015; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was born on August 7, 1932 in 
6Trivoli; his parents were Berne and Louise (nee Anderson) 
7Gronewold; he married Shirley Scroggins on December 27, 1959 in 
8Washington; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was a graduate of Farmington 
10Community High School and the University of Illinois College of 
11Pharmacy at Chicago; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold served his country as a member of 
13the United States Army; after his stint in the Army, he moved 
14to Washington, where he owned and operated Don's Pharmacy on 
15the Square for 42 years; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was a member of the Washington 
17Chamber of Commerce, the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, 
18the Central Illinois Pharmacist's Association, where he served 
19as president, the National Community Pharmacists Association, 
20the Illinois Pharmacist's Association, where he served as 
21president, and the American Pharmacist's Association; and

1    WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was the 1970 recipient of the 
2Bowl of Hygeia Award, which recognizes pharmacists who possess 
3outstanding records of civic leadership in their communities; 
4and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold served as the Mayor of Washington 
6for 3 terms from 1989 to 2001; he was also active in the 
7Tazewell County Republican Committee and for many years served 
8as the organization's treasurer; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was a member of Crossroads United 
10Methodist Church; he was also a 56-year member of the 
11Washington Rotary Club, where he served as president and was a 
12Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary International Foundation; 
13and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold enjoyed sports and was an avid 
15Chicago Cubs and Bears fan; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold was preceded in death by a 
17brother, Harold; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Donald Gronewold is survived by his wife, Shirley; 
19a son, Kevin Gronewold; and 2 sisters, Donna Mae (George) 
20Walker and Mary Jane (David) Severt; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his 
3family and friends, mourn the passing of Donald R. Gronewold; 
4and be it further
  
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
6presented to the family of Donald Gronewold as an expression of 
7our sympathy.
