2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Lawrence Augustus Hutcherson, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on August 9, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lawrence Hutcherson was born in St. Simons Island, | ||||||
6 | Georgia on December 17, 1937 to Charlie Hutcherson and Ludene | ||||||
7 | Sutton Hutcherson; he attended Glynn County public schools and | ||||||
8 | graduated from Risley High School; he served in the United | ||||||
9 | States Army during the Korean War; he attended Paine College | ||||||
10 | and married his wife Ernestine in 1965; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Lawrence Hutcherson was active in Emmanuel | ||||||
12 | Baptist Church, Holy Name of Mary Church, and the Cathedral of | ||||||
13 | Joy Baptist Church; at Holy Name of Mary, he served as an | ||||||
14 | usher, as a member of the Knights of Peter Claver, as a member | ||||||
15 | of the men's choir, and as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Master; in | ||||||
16 | 1989, he became a member of Cathedral of Joy Baptist Church, | ||||||
17 | where he was the pastor's adjutant and worked with the Sunday | ||||||
18 | school, Gideon's Army, the youth ministry, the administrative | ||||||
19 | team, and wherever else he was needed; he also served as a | ||||||
20 | deacon for the past 25 years and established the Champions for | ||||||
21 | Change for the church's early childhood educational center; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Outside of the church, Lawrence Hutcherson served |

1 | as a counselor to troubled youth in various communities, worked | ||||||
2 | alongside various politicians, served as President of the | ||||||
3 | Jaycees, and worked with Citizen Newspaper and Operation PUSH; | ||||||
4 | he sold World Books in addition to many other products to | ||||||
5 | benefit others; he also owned small businesses; he retired from | ||||||
6 | Crane Tech as a guidance Counselor and as a substitute teacher | ||||||
7 | in the Hammond, Indiana school system; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Lawrence Hutcherson was preceded in death by his | ||||||
9 | wife, Ernestine; his father, Charlie Hutcherson, Sr.; his | ||||||
10 | mother, Ludene Sutton Hutcherson; his 2 sisters, Evelyn | ||||||
11 | Hutcherson and Caretha Hutcherson Stevens; and his brother, | ||||||
12 | Alonzo "Bubba" Hutcherson; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Lawrence Hutcherson is survived by his 2 children, | ||||||
14 | Andricus and Anitra; his grandcat Josephine; his brother, | ||||||
15 | Charlie Hutcherson (Margaret); and a host of nieces, nephews, | ||||||
16 | other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Lawrence Augustus Hutcherson, and extend our sincere | ||||||
20 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
21 | him; and be it further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
