SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald Cohen of Urbana, who passed away
4on June 26, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, David Cohen was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in
61930; he graduated from Huntington High School and attended the
7State University of New York at Albany, earning his Bachelor of
8Arts in Math and his Master of Arts in Physics; he served in
9the United States Army and married Marilyn Joan LeFevre in
101952; and
 
11    WHEREAS, David Cohen worked as an educator and influenced
12thousands of children and adults throughout his life; he began
13teaching in the 50s and worked his way into teaching teachers
14in the early 60s; he began his 38-year business, The Math
15Program, in 1976 in Champaign/Urbana with Jerry Glenn; he was
16affectionately known as "The Mathman"; and
 
17    WHEREAS, David Cohen was an award-winning watercolor
18artist; he loved to read and help anyone from age 5 to infinity
19learn calculus; and
 
20    WHEREAS, David Cohen was preceded in death by his brother;
21his parents; and his granddaughter; and

1    WHEREAS, David Cohen was the devoted and loving husband of
262 years to Marilyn; the father of Brian D. Cohen (Terri), Mark
3Alan (Lisa), Steven Whitney Cohen, and adopted son, Ad; the
4caring grandfather of Aaron Cohen (Michelle), Carrie Ekmark
5(Brian), Danny Cohen (Heather), Lian Alan, Tara Alan (Tyler),
6and Tessa Cohen; and the great-grandfather of Lucas Cohen and
7Charles and Kathryn Ekmark; he is also survived by a close
8friend of the family, Barbara Wachs; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Donald Cohen, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
12friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of David Cohen as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
