SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles Joseph "Joe" Trefzger, Jr. of
4Peoria, who passed away on July 11, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Trefzger was born in Peoria in 1926 to Charles
6J. and Dora Trockur Trefzger; he graduated from Woodruff High
7School in 1944, where he played varsity football and was a
8standout varsity baseball player; in 1943, he was named the
9school's first Homecoming Chief; at 17 years of age, he
10enlisted in the United States Navy, becoming one of the younger
11members of the Greatest Generation; he served in the South
12Pacific on an oil tanker ship during World War II; he married
13Gladys Moody in 1948; and
 
14    WHEREAS, After returning from the Navy in 1946, Joe
15Trefzger "reported for duty" at the family business; he became
16especially skilled at making cakes; from the early 1960s until
171993, he and his brother, Tom, were the fourth generation of
18Trefzgers to run the firm's operations; in 1977, he and his
19family reopened their own store at the Prospect Road location;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Joe Trefzger enjoyed visiting his "old haunts",
22where he was always warmly welcomed; after retiring, he met for

1lunch on Fridays for more than 20 years with lifelong Glen Oak
2School and Woodruff friends; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Joe Trefzger was preceded in death by his parents;
4his son-in-law, Michael Corn; his sisters-in-law, Marilyn
5Trefzger and Billie Kimball; his brothers-in law, John Kimball
6and Henry Almasy; his nephews, Richard and Paul Trefzger; and
7his beloved aunts, Marie and Verna; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Joe Trefzger is survived by his wife, Gladys; his
9daughters, Sharon Corn and Beth Trefzger; his son, Joseph
10(Connie) Trefzger; his brothers, John Trefzger and Thomas
11(Betty) Trefzger; his grandchildren, Amanda and Ronald
12Trefzger; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Charles Joseph "Joe" Trefzger, Jr., and extend our sincere
16condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
17him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Joe Trefzger as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
