SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Eleanor N. Goodman, who passed away on
4June 29, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman was born on August 9, 1920 in
6Hopkinsville, Kentucky; her parents were Leo Jay and Frieda
7Silberstein Newman; she married Marvin Leon Goodman on July 13,
81941 in Peoria; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman moved with her parents to Peoria
10when she was a young child; she was a graduate of Peoria High
11School and attended the University of Illinois; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman was a community leader who worked
13with several charities and non-profit organizations; she was
14president of the Kickapoo Council of the Girl Scouts and helped
15establish and build one of the region's first Girl Scout camps,
16Camp Tapawingo; she was active in B'nai Brith in Peoria and
17served on the auxiliaries of Peoria's hospitals; she and her
18husband also established a private family foundation from which
19they helped fund many activities behind the scenes, including
20the distribution of the polio vaccine to local children and
21college scholarships to students who could not otherwise afford
22to go to college; and

1    WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman and her husband were strong
2supporters of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which was
3established by her daughter, Nancy Goodman Brinker, in honor of
4Mrs. Brinker's sister, who died of breast cancer in 1980; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman was preceded in death by her
6husband, Marvin; her parents; and a daughter, Susan G. Komen;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman is survived by her daughter, Nancy
9G. Brinker; 3 grandchildren, Eric B. Brinker, Scott M. (Marnie)
10Komen, and Stephanie L. Komen; and 2 great-grandchildren, Susan
11Madeline and Abigail Brooke Komen; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
14family and friends, mourn the passing of Eleanor N. Goodman;
15and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Eleanor Goodman as an expression of
18our sympathy.
