SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James L. Hanson of Batavia, who passed
4away on June 4, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Hanson was born in Geneva on October 26,
61925 to Claude and Marguerite (nee Wagner) Hanson; he graduated
7as class valedictorian from Batavia High School in 1943 and
8received degrees from Lawrence College and the University of
9Illinois; and
 
10    WHEREAS, For many years, James Hanson was an educator in
11the West Aurora schools, teaching social studies to junior high
12school students; he served as Superintendent of the Kane County
13Regional Office of Education for 12 years from 1975 to 1987; he
14was elected a Batavia City Alderman in 1961, serving for 16
15years and acting as Chairman of the Planning, Zoning, and
16Annexation Committee; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In retirement, James Hanson volunteered for local
18service agencies that helped those in need; he was named the
19City of Batavia's Citizen of the Year in 2013 and was inducted
20into the Batavia Public Schools Hall of Honor; and
 
21    WHEREAS, James Hanson was an avid supporter of the Batavia

1Historical Society, the Calvary Episcopal Church, the
2Interfaith Food Pantry, R.S.V.P., and Meals on Wheels; and
 
3    WHEREAS, James Hanson is survived by his wife of 61 years,
4Dorothy; his 2 sons, John (Barbara) and Mark (Doreen); his 4
5grandchildren, Donovan, Cara (Nelson), Kathryn, and Thomas;
6and his 2 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Linden; therefore, be
7it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10James L. Hanson, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of James Hanson as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
