SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James L. Hanson of Batavia, who passed away on June 4, 2015; and

WHEREAS, James Hanson was born in Geneva on October 26, 1925 to Claude and Marguerite (nee Wagner) Hanson; he graduated as class valedictorian from Batavia High School in 1943 and received degrees from Lawrence College and the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, For many years, James Hanson was an educator in the West Aurora schools, teaching social studies to junior high school students; he served as Superintendent of the Kane County Regional Office of Education for 12 years from 1975 to 1987; he was elected a Batavia City Alderman in 1961, serving for 16 years and acting as Chairman of the Planning, Zoning, and Annexation Committee; and

WHEREAS, In retirement, James Hanson volunteered for local service agencies that helped those in need; he was named the City of Batavia's Citizen of the Year in 2013 and was inducted into the Batavia Public Schools Hall of Honor; and

WHEREAS, James Hanson was an avid supporter of the Batavia Historical Society, the Calvary Episcopal Church, the Interfaith Food Pantry, R.S.V.P., and Meals on Wheels; and

WHEREAS, James Hanson is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy; his 2 sons, John (Barbara) and Mark (Doreen); his 4 grandchildren, Donovan, Cara (Nelson), Kathryn, and Thomas; and his 2 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Linden; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James L. Hanson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Hanson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
