2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Howard J. Cotton of Bloomington, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on March 3, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was born on June 4, 1932 in | ||||||
6 | Heyworth; his parents were John D. and Nellie D. Lee Cotton; he | ||||||
7 | married Mary Catherine Lenegar on October 20, 1956 in | ||||||
8 | Bloomington; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Howard Cotton served as a member of the United | ||||||
10 | States Army during the Korean War; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was a graduate of Heyworth High | ||||||
12 | School; he was an electrician by trade and a member of | ||||||
13 | International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 197 in | ||||||
14 | Bloomington; he retired from the Town of Normal in 1995 after | ||||||
15 | 18 years as an electrical inspector; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was a member of the Historic St. | ||||||
17 | Patrick's Catholic Church and the church's Altar and Rosary | ||||||
18 | Society; he also volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was a 4th Degree Knight and past | ||||||
20 | Grand Knight of the Fr. John D. Ring Knights of Columbus |

1 | Council 574 in Bloomington; he was also a member of American | ||||||
2 | Legion Post 56 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 454 in | ||||||
3 | Bloomington; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, | ||||||
5 | Chicago Bears, and Notre Dame; he also enjoyed golfing and | ||||||
6 | bowling; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
8 | Mary Catherine; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Howard Cotton is survived by 4 daughters, Kimberly | ||||||
10 | (Curt) Smith, Diane Siron, Julia (Edgar) Duvall, and Mary D. | ||||||
11 | Cotton; 2 sons, Pat Cotton and David (Karin) Cotton; 7 | ||||||
12 | grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and his special friend | ||||||
13 | and companion of 7 years, Connie Wheeler; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
16 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Howard J. Cotton; and | ||||||
17 | be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Howard Cotton as an expression of | ||||||
20 | our sympathy.
