|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Generose Marie Szostak of Sedgebrook, who |
4 | | passed away on April 8, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Generose Szostak was born in Waukegan on November |
6 | | 24, 1929 to Narcyz "Nick" Snarski and Charlotte (nee Ratajczak) |
7 | | Snarski; she graduated from Holy Rosary School in 1943 and |
8 | | Waukegan Township High School in 1947; she married Charles |
9 | | Joseph Szostak on September 8, 1951 at Holy Rosary Church in |
10 | | North Chicago, now known as Queen of Peace Church; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Generose Szostak graduated as a court reporter |
12 | | from the Gregg Court Reporting School and began working in |
13 | | Chicago; she then worked for the family business, Ratajack's |
14 | | Confectionery Liquor store in North Chicago for 25 years, until |
15 | | in 1980; she then worked for Abbott Laboratories International |
16 | | Division, retiring in December of 1999; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, After retirement, Generose Szostak volunteered at |
18 | | Habitat for Humanity Lake County, Catholic Charities for Meals |
19 | | on Wheels, and at the office helping with the money management |
20 | | program; she also served as coordinator at St. Gilbert Church |
21 | | for the Baptismal Bibs and Purificators; she was a Minister of |
22 | | Care and Eucharistic Minister and a money counter in the |

1 | | Parish; she was an AARP member and enjoyed her monthly meetings |
2 | | with her sewing club group; she moved to Sedgebrook in April of |
3 | | 2010 and volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister, as Minister of |
4 | | Care for Radford Green, for the Interfaith Council, and for the |
5 | | Catholic Council; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Generose Szostak was enjoyed participating in |
7 | | water volleyball, the fitness center, Phase 10, and Rummi Kub; |
8 | | and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Generose Szostak was preceded in death by her |
10 | | husband, Charles; her parents; her brother, Eugene Snarski; and |
11 | | her sister-in-law, Sally Snarski; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Generose Szostak is survived by her 5 daughters, |
13 | | Rosemarie Szostak and John Johnson, Carlene Szostak and Cliff |
14 | | Lavin, Maryann and Ralph Wolf, Charlotte and Dan McLaughlin, |
15 | | and Madeline and Tom Hoge; her grandchildren, John David |
16 | | (Terry) Johnson and Johnna (Bryan) Bridges, Tim (Sherrie) Wolf |
17 | | and Joe (Kelly) Wolf, Michael and Rachael Lavin, Phillip and |
18 | | Eric Ricardo, Joseph Tyler, Thomas Peyton and William Mason |
19 | | Hoge, Carlie and Shannon McLaughlin; and her |
20 | | great-grandchildren Haley and Blake Wolf, Anna Beth and Sadie |
21 | | Bridges, and Lydia Johnson; therefore, be it

1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
2 | | Generose Marie Szostak, and extend our sincere condolences to |
3 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |

5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
6 | | presented to the family of Generose Szostak as an expression of |
7 | | our deepest sympathy.
