2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Patrick E. Mahoney of Western Springs, |
4 | | who passed away on March 22, 2015; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney grew up near 60th and Campbell |
6 | | Streets; he was struck by polio before he entered kindergarten |
7 | | and still learned to play table tennis through the Chicago Park |
8 | | District; he graduated from the University of Illinois at |
9 | | Urbana-Champaign; he and his wife, Jeanne, raised their family |
10 | | in Beverly, and later, Western Springs; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was a personal-injury lawyer; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Patrick Mahoney was affectionately known as the |
13 | | "Angel of St. Angela's" and volunteered much of his time to |
14 | | help the school, located on the West Side of Chicago; he did |
15 | | everything from substitute teaching, to buying paper and |
16 | | pencils, to fundraising, and even dispensing legal advice; 21 |
17 | | years ago he became President of the St. Angela School Board |
18 | | and many say the school would not be open if it weren't for |
19 | | him; he was also a longtime supporter of Misericordia, a |
20 | | residential facility for people with developmental |
21 | | disabilities, serving as its legal advisor; he also supported |
22 | | St. Francis Xavier University; and |
