2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Sheldon Sternberg of Chicago, who passed |
4 | | away on April 9, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg was born in Chicago on February |
6 | | 27, 1923; while attending DePaul University in 1942, he |
7 | | enlisted in the United States Air Force and was assigned to the |
8 | | 390th Bombardment Squadron; he was sent to Europe, where he |
9 | | served as navigator for bombing missions over Germany and |
10 | | France; he also participated in Operation Chowhound, a series |
11 | | of humanitarian missions that included food drops over the |
12 | | Netherlands; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg returned to Chicago after his |
14 | | military service and joined his wife's family's business, |
15 | | Best's Kosher Sausage Company, which later produced hot dogs |
16 | | served at Wrigley Field and other landmark Chicago venues; he |
17 | | was President of the company in 1993 when it was sold to Sara |
18 | | Lee; and

19 | | WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg was an avid Chicago Cubs fan; |

21 | | WHEREAS, Sheldon Sternberg and his wife, Elaine, had 4 |
