SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 330

 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois Endangered Species Act makes it
3unlawful for any person to possess or transport any animal
4species which occurs on the Illinois Endangered and Threatened
5Species List; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Under the Illinois Wildlife Code, it is illegal to
7possess, transport, or care for sick, injured, or orphaned
8wildlife in Illinois unless you have a permit from the
9Department of Natural Resources; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Members of the public sometimes find sick,
11injured, or orphaned animals in the wild; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The public is not always aware of the laws
13prohibiting possession or transport of protected animals;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Department
17of Natural Resources to administer a public education campaign
18that informs the public about the exact steps to take if a
19sick, injured, or orphaned animal is encountered in the wild;
20and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That we urge the Department of Natural Resources
2to increase public education outreach in the months of March
3and April when infant animals are mistaken as orphaned and
4should be left as they were found; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That we support the Department of Natural
6Resources entering into public-private partnerships for the
7purpose of developing and sharing educational materials such as
8posters, videos, programs, advertisements, and public service
9announcements; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That we support public-private collaboration in
11the dissemination of said educational materials to places such
12as schools, public and private newsletters, public and private
13websites, and television and radio stations.
