SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Josephine Lucas of Marengo, who passed
4away on December 20, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Josephine Lucas was born in Chicago on September
620, 1929 to John and Rose Chidichimo; she married Donald Lucas
7in Lockhaven, Pennsylvania on July 17, 1970; she was married
8previously to Donald Jay Wilson; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Josephine Lucas held a Master of Social Work from
10the University of Illinois and worked until her retirement from
11Illinois Elementary School District 59 in Elk Grove Village as
12a school social worker and a department administrator; she
13began her career shortly after finishing high school, working
14as an activities director at Jane Addams' Hull House in
15Chicago; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Josephine Lucas sung in several operas; she was an
17avid musician and enjoyed singing and playing the piano and
18string bass; during the 1960s, she was a member of a strolling
19combo, "The Honeycombs", and was a past member of the Chicago
20Federation of Musicians; years later, she toured Europe several
21times with a choir from District 59; she also loved animals and
22belonged to a number of animal welfare organizations and

1wildlife preservation foundations; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Since moving to Marengo in 1996, Josephine Lucas
3was an active member of the Marengo Woman's Club, the Ladies'
4Home Circle, the McHenry County Retired Teachers Association,
5the Florence Nursing Home Auxiliary, and the Marengo Lioness
6Club; she volunteered at the McHenry County Historical Society
7and served on the board of directors of the Woodstock Mozart
8Festival; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Josephine Lucas was preceded in death by her
10parents, and by her husband, Donald; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Josephine Lucas is survived by her daughter, Tracy
12Doyle; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Josephine Lucas, and extend our sincere condolences to her
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Josephine Lucas as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
