4 | | Orestes Armas "Minnie" Minoso Arrieta, who passed away on March |
5 | | 1, 2015; and

6 | | WHEREAS, Known as the "Cuban Comet", Minnie Minoso joined |
7 | | the White Sox on May 1, 1951, becoming Major League Baseball's |
8 | | (MLB) first black player in the City of Chicago and joining a |
9 | | wave of black players who changed the game of baseball forever; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Minnie Minoso played 12 of his 17 seasons with the |
12 | | White Sox, hitting .304 with 135 home runs and 808 RBI; he was |
13 | | selected for 9 All-Star games, won 3 Gold Gloves, and finished |
14 | | in the top 4 in American League Most Valuable Player voting 4 |
15 | | times; and

16 | | WHEREAS, Minnie Minoso's number 9 was retired by the White |
17 | | Sox in 1983 and a statue of him stands on the grounds of U.S. |
18 | | Cellular Field; and

19 | | WHEREAS, Minnie Minoso hit a 2-run home run in his first |
20 | | at-bat for the White Sox, and by the time he played his final |
21 | | game with them 35 years ago, he was a beloved figure for the |
