2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Margaret Anne Kenny McNally, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on March 11, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Margaret McNally was born on August 23, 1929 in | ||||||
6 | West Bend, Wisconsin; her parents were Delbert James and Olive | ||||||
7 | Anna (nee Kauffung) Kenny; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Margaret McNally attended Mount Mary College in | ||||||
9 | Milwaukee and in 1952 and graduated from St. Louis University; | ||||||
10 | as a college senior, she overlapped for one year at St. Louis | ||||||
11 | University with her future husband, Dr. Randall E. McNally, a | ||||||
12 | legendary Chicago surgeon, former United States Air Force | ||||||
13 | doctor, and longtime cut man for the Chicago Blackhawks; they | ||||||
14 | were married on June 20, 1953 at Holy Angels Church in West | ||||||
15 | Bend, Wisconsin; together, they raised 10 children who have | ||||||
16 | gone on to many illustrious careers, including a veteran of 3 | ||||||
17 | White House administrations, an Executive Producer for Oprah | ||||||
18 | Winfrey, a military hero and aircraft carrier pilot in the | ||||||
19 | United States Navy and Marine Corps, a television, film, and | ||||||
20 | Broadway actress, and a University of Chicago spinal surgeon; | ||||||
21 | and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Margaret McNally managed the medical practice of |

| |||||||
1 | her husband for many years; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Margaret McNally was an active participant in many | ||||||
3 | charitable causes in Chicago; she served 2 tours of duty as | ||||||
4 | Chair of the Rush Faculty Wives and served in a leadership | ||||||
5 | capacity with the National Association for the Prevention of | ||||||
6 | Child Abuse; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Margaret McNally enjoyed cooking, shopping, | ||||||
8 | summer lakes, tennis, cycling, and skiing; she was also a | ||||||
9 | renowned entertainer who found improbable ways to stage events | ||||||
10 | with grace, nerve, and flair; she was widely considered a | ||||||
11 | founder and instigator of the round-the-world "birthday party | ||||||
12 | for Planet Earth" on New Year's Eve 1999, which featured | ||||||
13 | celebrations in each of the globe's 24 time zones at sites | ||||||
14 | including Stonehenge, Red Square and the Taj Mahal and an epic | ||||||
15 | celebration at the Great Pyramid of Cheops; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Margaret McNally was preceded in death by 2 | ||||||
17 | children, Anne Mary McNally and Lt. Cmdr. Randall E. McNally II | ||||||
18 | (USN) and 2 grandchildren, Sean Morrissey and Emmett Morrissey; | ||||||
19 | and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Margaret McNally is survived by her husband of 61 | ||||||
21 | years, Dr. Randall McNally; 8 children, Maureen Morrissey, | ||||||
22 | Patrick McNally, Tara Montgomery, Edward McNally, Sheila |

1 | McNally, Ryan McNally, Tom McNally, and McNally Sagal; 30 | ||||||
2 | grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Kenny | ||||||
3 | Koehn; and a brother, Col. Patrick D.J. Kenny (ret.); | ||||||
4 | therefore, be it

5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her | ||||||
7 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Margaret Anne Kenny | ||||||
8 | McNally; and be it further

9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Margaret McNally as an expression of | ||||||
11 | our sympathy.
