SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. John Dickens of St. Charles, who
4passed away on February 6, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Dickens was born in Aurora to William and
6Elizabeth Dickens and was a lifelong resident of St. Charles;
7he graduated from Marmion Academy in 1958 and from the
8University of Dayton in 1962; he received his Doctorate in
9Dental Surgery from Marquette University in 1966; he served in
10the United States Army, stationed in Korea at Camp Irwin; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Dickens returned to his home town and opened
12his dental practice in downtown St. Charles in December of
131969; his practice was not just work, but his passion; he loved
14each of his patients and they, along with his staff, became his
15second family; he served on the board of the Heritage Center in
16St. Charles and the Norris Center in St. Charles and was a
17member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, the Knights of
18Columbus, the American Legion, and the St. Charles Country
19Club; he volunteered his time and talent with his wife in
20Guatemala and at the girls school in Geneva; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Dickens was an avid golfer and racket ball
22player; he enjoyed many outdoor activities and loved all of the

1Chicago teams; he loved to tell a joke and never seemed to be
2at a loss for a story to share; he was a "master of social
3wisdom", warming the hearts of many people; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. Dickens was preceded in death by his brother,
5Thomas Dickens; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Dickens is survived by his wife 38 years,
7Christine; his sons, Matthew and Timothy; his daughters,
8Melissa (Bryce) Salter, Megan, and Mary; his grandsons, Jayden
9and William; his first granddaughter soon to be born; several
10wonderful brother and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and
11nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Dr. John Dickens, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Dr. Dickens as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
