2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Dorothy A. (nee Hammel) Yellen, who |
4 | | passed away on January 31, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Yellen was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on |
6 | | April 17, 1924 to Elise and Harry Hammel; she attended the |
7 | | University of Wisconsin; during World War II, she worked as a |
8 | | nurse's aide at a veteran's hospital in the Hyde Park |
9 | | neighborhood; she married Morris Yellen on July 7, 1945; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Yellen worked as a salesperson of men's |
11 | | clothing at several Waukegan stores; she also helped take the |
12 | | United States Census every 10 years; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Yellen was an avid sports fan and enjoyed |
14 | | watching baseball, golf, football, tennis, basketball, and |
15 | | most of all, college basketball; she enjoyed cooking, bridge, |
16 | | mahjong, and the many family dogs that were a lifelong presence |
17 | | in her home; she cherished her close friends from Kenosha, |
18 | | Waukegan, and most recently at Kensington Court in Downers |
19 | | Grove; she was active in the Hadassah and Sisterhood at Temple |
20 | | Am Echod in Waukegan; she was lovingly known to her family as |
21 | | "Grandma Doll", or simply "Doll"; and
