2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Roy Isaiah Williams, Sr. of Springfield, |
4 | | who passed away on February 3, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. was born in Chicago on October |
6 | | 31, 1941 to Gaynell (nee Graham) and Roy A. Williams; he |
7 | | graduated from Lanphier High School, where he lettered
in |
8 | | basketball and football; he married Linda Douglas on June 4, |
9 | | 1988 at Monroe Street Christian
Church; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. worked for the State of Illinois |
11 | | for 35 years, retiring in 2002 from the
Prisoner Review Board; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. was a member of Union Baptist |
14 | | Church; he was a member of the C. Lee Carey Neighborhood |
15 | | Association and the Faith Coalition for the
Common Good and was |
16 | | a former member of One In A Million and Eastside Pride; he was |
17 | | very active
politically and worked to bring change to the |
18 | | Eastside Brick House Unit; he enjoyed music, sports, dancing, |
19 | | and spending time with his family; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. was preceded in death by his |
21 | | parents; his step-father, Preston McCrary; his daughter, |
|

3 | | WHEREAS, Roy Williams, Sr. is survived by his wife of 26 |

5 | | Jr., Michael (Doris) Williams, and Rodney (Charlotte) Gool; his |
6 | | 4 daughters, Tina (Tony) Crawford, Debra Williams, Donna Sloan, |
7 | | and Shaundra
Porter; his 3 brothers, Allen E. (Carolyn) |
8 | | Williams, Lawrence
(Carolyn) Fortenberry, and Preston L. |
9 | | (Toni) McCrary; his 4
sisters, Jackquelee E. (Robert) Sigars, |

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
19 | | Roy Isaiah Williams, Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to |
20 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
21 | | further
