SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert Rolland "Bob" Smith of Alton, who
4passed away on January 12, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Smith was born in Grayslake on July 1, 1937
6to Delbert A. and Mildred C. (nee Schaefer) Smith; he married
7Jean R. Crawford on December 21, 1957 in Alton at St. Matthew
8Catholic Church; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Smith worked for the State of Illinois as a
10counselor for over 30 years, retiring in 1992; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Smith enjoyed gardening, reading, social
12gatherings, and spending time with his family; he was a member
13of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, where he helped in
14various capacities, including serving at Mass; he was also
15active in the SERRA Club and with the local Knights of
16Columbus; he helped at St. Francis Convent as a Mass server and
17as a worshipper in the Adoration Chapel; he enjoyed vintage
18Hollywood films, jazz bands, and period music; he also enjoyed
19teaching for Southwestern Illinois College and Lewis and Clark
20Colleges; he volunteered for numerous Catholic and religious
21organizations; and

1    WHEREAS, Robert Smith was preceded in death by his parents
2and his wife, Jean; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Robert Smith is survived by his 7 children and
4their spouses, Dr. Glenn and Dr. Cynthia Ochipa-Smith, Jeanine
5and Mark Morelli, Darren and Janet Smith, Todd Smith, Grethen
6and Rodney Cook, Allison and Mark Cowgill, and Peter Smith; his
723 grandchildren; his 4 great-grandchildren; his 2 sisters and
8a brother-in-law, Dr. Dianne Parker and Cynthia and Ron Frick;
9and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Robert Rolland "Bob" Smith, and extend our sincere condolences
13to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Robert Smith as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
