SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bettye Alice Williams of St. Louis,
4Missouri, who passed away on January 12, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bettye Williams was born in Lexington,
6Mississippi on December 28, 1919 to Nathan Tate and Serena
7Rice-Tate; she graduated from Saints Industrial and Literary
8School; she married Joseph Levy Williams on May 6, 1939; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Following graduation, Bettye Williams began
10working as a hairstylist; she held a customer service position
11at Montgomery Ward for several years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bettye Williams was an avid St. Louis Cardinals
13fan and enjoyed watching them play in the World Series; she
14also enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Bettye Williams was preceded in death by her
16husband, Joseph, and her children, Lorraine, Johnathon, Carl,
17and two children who did not make it to term; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Bettye Williams is survived by her sisters,
19Cornelia Suggs (William "Bill" Suggs) and Chleo Anderson; her
20children, JoEvelyn Williams, Karen Horton, Tyrone Williams,

1and Pamela Jacobs; her grandchildren, Rochelle Bays, Jerome
2Giddens, Elise Cox, Christopher Battle, Jr. (Kwalnzia "Luci"
3Battle), Crystal Battle, Michelle Battle, Sydney Battle,
4Michael Battle, Destiny Pitt, Samantha Williams, Devin Reed,
5Angelique Jacobs, and Brandon Gilliam; her nieces and nephews,
6Denise Rixter, Junior Anderson, and Glenda Anderson; her
7great-grandchildren, Damien, Ariana, Cordelia, Monte, Deonte,
8Jermel, Victor, Kyla, S'rena, Christopher III, Christon,
9Elizabeth, Precious, and Neil; and a host of
10great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and
11friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Bettye Alice Williams, and extend our sincere condolences to
15her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Bettye Williams as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
