SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Martin J. Vota of Taylorville, who passed
4away on January 8, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Martin Vota was born in Cedar Point on June 12,
61917 to Martin and Katherine (nee Pasqueno) Vota; he and his
7family moved to Jeisyville and eventually Langleyville; he
8graduated from Taylorville Township High School in 1934 and
9joined the Civilian Conservation Corps shortly thereafter;
10during World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army Air
11Corps; while in the service, he taught mechanics at Chaunte Air
12Force Base near Rantoul; he joined the Flying Cadets out of
13Sikeston, Missouri and served in the European Theater in the
14later part of the war; he married Dorothy Spisak on May 30,
151953 at Holy Rosary Church in Chicago; and
 
16    WHEREAS, After returning to the United States, Martin Vota
17went to the American Television School in Chicago for
18television engineering; he and Dorothy moved to Decatur and
19opened Decatur Television Engineers when WAND-TV began
20broadcasting; in 1966, he and his family moved to Taylorville
21to sell and repair televisions; he and Dorothy owned and
22operated Vota TV and Appliances until their retirement in 1989;
23in his retirement, he enjoyed chronicling his family's

1genealogy, emailing extended family in France and Italy, mowing
2his yard, working outdoors, and spending time with his loved
3ones; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Martin Vota was preceded in death by his parents;
5his brother, Joe Vota; and his sister, Lucy Zarr; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Martin Vota is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his
7children, Cathy (Marty) Arnold, Martin (Deanna) Vota, Cindy
8Drea, Lori Ward, and Robin Vota; his grandchildren, Matthew and
9Katie Arnold, Heidi and Haylen Vota, Andrew and Bridget Drea,
10and Arika and Keegan Ward; his nephews, Dennis (Carol) Zarr and
11Richard (Sue) Zarr; and several other nieces, nephews, and
12cousins; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Martin J. Vota, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Martin Vota as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
