625 ILCS 5/3-699.14 new
625 ILCS 5/3-699.15 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Creates Bronze Star with Valor plates that the Secretary of State may issue to Illinois residents, or their surviving spouses, that have been awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device by the United States Armed Forces. Creates Army Commendation Medal with Valor plates that the Secretary of State may issue to Illinois residents, or their surviving spouses, that have been awarded the Army Commendation Medal with "V" device by the United States Army.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699.14 and 3-699.15 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699.14 new)
7    Sec. 3-699.14. Bronze Star with Valor plates.
8    (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and
9applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of
10State, may issue special registration plates to residents of
11Illinois who have been awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device
12by the United States Armed Forces. The Secretary, upon receipt
13of the proper applications and fees, may also issue these
14special registration plates to an Illinois resident who is the
15surviving spouse of a person who was awarded the Bronze Star
16with "V" device by a branch of the armed forces of the United
17States. The special plate issued under this Section shall be
18affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division,
19motorcycles, or motor vehicles of the second division weighing
20not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued under this Section
21shall expire according to the staggered multi-year procedure
22established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
23    (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be

1wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
2Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be
3issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with
4Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
5designate "Land Of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
6Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the
7eligibility requirements and, in his or her discretion, shall
8approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
9Section 3-412.
