1 | | (b) Notwithstanding any general or special law to the |
2 | | contrary, a licensed pharmacist may dispense an opioid antidote |
3 | | in accordance with written, standardized procedures or |
4 | | protocols developed by the Department with the Department of |
5 | | Public Health and the Department of Human Services if the |
6 | | procedures or protocols are filed at the pharmacy before |
7 | | implementation and are available to the Department upon |
8 | | request. |
9 | | (c) Before dispensing an opioid antidote pursuant to this |
10 | | Section, a pharmacist shall complete a training program |
11 | | approved by the Department of Human Services pursuant to |
12 | | Section 5-23 of the Alcoholism and Other Drug Abuse and |
13 | | Dependency Act. The training program shall include, but not be |
14 | | limited to, proper documentation and quality assurance. |
15 | | (d) For the purpose of this Section, "opioid antidote" |
16 | | means a dose of naloxone hydrochloride or any other similarly |
17 | | acting and equally safe drug approved by the United States Food |
18 | | and Drug Administration.

19 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
20 | | becoming law.".
