1 | | stop signs shall be placed in a manner to provide adequate |
2 | | visibility and legibility, and shall be placed within duration |
3 | | recommendations in the State Manual, unless circumstances |
4 | | require longer placement.

5 | | (b) No local authority shall place or maintain any |
6 | | traffic-control
device upon any highway under the jurisdiction |
7 | | of the Department except
by the latter's permission.
|
8 | | (c) The Department shall erect and maintain guide, warning |
9 | | and
direction signs upon highways in cities, towns and villages |
10 | | of which
portions or lanes of such highways are under the |
11 | | control and
jurisdiction of the Department or for which the |
12 | | Department has
maintenance responsibility.
|
13 | | (d) Nothing in this Chapter shall divest the corporate |
14 | | authorities
of park districts of power to prohibit or restrict |
15 | | the use of highways
under their jurisdiction by certain types |
16 | | or weights of motor vehicles
or the power of cities, villages, |
17 | | incorporated towns and park districts
to designate highways for |
18 | | one-way traffic or the power of such municipal
corporations to |
19 | | erect and maintain appropriate signs respecting such
uses.

20 | | (e) Nothing in this Section shall prohibit a municipality, |
21 | | township, or
county from erecting signs as required under the |
22 | | Illinois Adopt-A-Highway Act.

7 | | jurisdiction
as are required to indicate and carry out the |
8 | | provisions of this Chapter,
and local traffic ordinances or to |
9 | | regulate, warn, or guide traffic. All
such traffic control |
10 | | devices shall conform to the State Manual and
Specifications |
11 | | and shall be justified by traffic warrants stated in the
|
12 | | Manual. Temporary stop signs shall be placed in a manner to |
13 | | provide adequate visibility and legibility, and shall be placed |
14 | | within duration recommendations in the State Manual, unless |
15 | | circumstances require longer placement. Placement of |
16 | | traffic-control devices on township or road district
roads also |
17 | | shall be subject to the written approval of the county engineer

18 | | or superintendent of highways.

20 | | jurisdictions shall have the authority to install signs,
in |
21 | | conformance with the State Manual and specifications, alerting |
22 | | motorists of
the tourist oriented businesses available on roads |
23 | | under
local jurisdiction in rural areas as may be required to |
24 | | guide motorists to the
businesses.
The local authorities and |
25 | | road district
highway commissioners shall also have the |
26 | | authority to sell or
lease space on these signs to the owners |
