2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by |
5 | | changing Section 1-2-11 as follows:
|
6 | | (65 ILCS 5/1-2-11) (from Ch. 24, par. 1-2-11)
|
7 | | Sec. 1-2-11.
(a) A sheriff may serve any process or make |
8 | | any arrest in a
municipality or a part of a municipality |
9 | | located in the county in which the
sheriff was elected that any |
10 | | officer of that municipality is authorized to
make under this |
11 | | Code or any ordinance passed under this Code.

12 | | (b) Police officers may serve summons for violations of |
13 | | ordinances
occurring within their municipalities. In |
14 | | municipalities with a population of 1,000,000 or more, active |
15 | | duty or retired police officers may serve summons for |
16 | | violations of ordinances
occurring within their |
17 | | municipalities.

18 | | (c) In addition to the powers
stated in Section 8.1a of the |
19 | | Housing Authorities Act, in counties with a
population of |
20 | | 3,000,000 or more inhabitants, members of a housing
authority |
21 | | police force may serve process for forcible entry and detainer
|
22 | | actions commenced by that housing authority and may execute |
23 | | orders of
possession for that housing authority. Orders for |
