2 | | district and shall have the power to make arrests, subject to |
3 | | subsections (b) and (c) of this Section. |
4 | | (b) Each school police officer employed under this Section |
5 | | is vested with police powers, is authorized to act as a |
6 | | conservator of the peace within the school district, and may |
7 | | arrest or cause to be arrested, with or without a warrant, any |
8 | | person who breaks the peace or who violates any ordinance of |
9 | | the city where the school district is located or any criminal |
10 | | law of this State. The authority granted under this subsection |
11 | | (b) is expressly limited to school district property and shall |
12 | | not be construed to extend to any other jurisdiction, except in |
13 | | cases of fresh pursuit or under a validly executed |
14 | | intergovernmental cooperation agreement. |
15 | | An arrest may be made by a school police officer without a |
16 | | warrant when a criminal offense is committed or attempted in |
17 | | his or her presence or when a criminal offense has been |
18 | | committed and the officer has reasonable ground for believing |
19 | | that the person to be arrested has committed it. Any person so |
20 | | arrested shall, without unnecessary delay, be taken by the |
21 | | officer before the circuit court of the county having |
22 | | jurisdiction, and the officer shall file a complaint in writing |
23 | | under oath, charging the defendant with a violation of a |
24 | | statute or ordinance. |
25 | | (c) A school police officer employed under this Section |
26 | | shall comply with the requirements of the Illinois Police |
