| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to honor our
colleague, State | ||||||
| 4 | Representative Eddie Lee Jackson Sr., on his service to the | ||||||
| 5 | State of Illinois and
the people of the 114th Representative | ||||||
| 6 | District; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Representative Jackson, an East St. Louis | ||||||
| 8 | resident, is a consummate educator,
humanitarian, and public | ||||||
| 9 | servant who has been committed to solving problems that inhibit | ||||||
| 10 | the
growth and stability of the State and the Metro East | ||||||
| 11 | region; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Representative Jackson received his bachelor's | ||||||
| 13 | degree in education and his
master's degree in city planning | ||||||
| 14 | from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Family has always been the focus of Representative | ||||||
| 16 | Jackson's life; together, he and
his devoted wife, Pearlie Lee | ||||||
| 17 | Jackson, instilled in their son and daughter, Eddie Jackson | ||||||
| 18 | Jr.,
and Emeka Jackson-Hicks, and their grandchildren strong | ||||||
| 19 | values and the importance of a sound
education; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Representative Jackson served as a teacher at East | ||||||
| 21 | St. Louis Senior High School in
District #189, principal at | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Clark Junior High School, and principal of A.M. Jackson Math | ||||||
| 2 | and
Science Academy; as an educator, he impressed upon students | ||||||
| 3 | the importance of education,
striving every day to succeed and | ||||||
| 4 | reaching the highest possible level of achievement; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, During Representative Jackson's tenure as | ||||||
| 6 | principal of the A.M. Jackson Math and
Science Academy, the | ||||||
| 7 | school's gifted program was the pride of the community and | ||||||
| 8 | received
recognition throughout the State for its performance | ||||||
| 9 | and the techniques and talents exhibited by
students; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Assessing problems and finding solutions | ||||||
| 11 | motivated Representative Jackson to get
more involved in public | ||||||
| 12 | service; following his retirement from the school district, and | ||||||
| 13 | the death
of State Representative Wyvetter H. Younge, he was | ||||||
| 14 | called into service and appointed to the
House of | ||||||
| 15 | Representatives in January of 2009; he worked to earn the | ||||||
| 16 | support
and confidence of constituents every day; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Representative Jackson has served the 114th | ||||||
| 18 | Representative District with integrity and
dedication; his | ||||||
| 19 | background in education as a teacher and administrator filled | ||||||
| 20 | him with
compassion; he worked to stay in touch with the needs | ||||||
| 21 | of local residents; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Representative Jackson is a member of the Mt. | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he is a
member of the | ||||||
| 2 | Sunday School Ministry; he is a member of the Chamber of | ||||||
| 3 | Commerce, Kappa
Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Masons, and a | ||||||
| 4 | former member of the East St. Louis City Council; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Representative Jackson has been recognized for | ||||||
| 6 | his service through awards,
including the Illinois Downstate | ||||||
| 7 | Caucus Advocate for Community Service Award, the 2013
Golden | ||||||
| 8 | Bridge Award for Excellence in Government, and the 2014 Men of | ||||||
| 9 | Valor Salute to
Excellence Award; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 11 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 12 | honor State Representative Eddie Lee Jackson Sr. for his | ||||||
| 13 | dedicated service as a member of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 14 | Representatives; and be it further
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 16 | presented to Representative Jackson as an expression of our | ||||||
| 17 | respect, esteem, and best wishes.
