2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to honor our
esteemed colleague, |
4 | | State Representative Patrick J. Verschoore, on his nearly 14 |
5 | | years as a member
of the Illinois General Assembly and thank |
6 | | him for his dedicated service to our State and his
community; |
7 | | and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Representative Verschoore was born and raised in |
9 | | the Quad Cities as the youngest of
seven children; his family |
10 | | traditions are deeply rooted in the rich agricultural land that |
11 | | surrounds the
area; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Representative Verschoore dedicated his skills |
13 | | and commitment to organized labor for
more than 30 years as a |
14 | | member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #25; he completed a |
15 | | five-year
apprenticeship and received his plumber's license in |
16 | | 1970, quickly earning a reputation in the labor
community as a |
17 | | fighter for workers' rights; he was elected President of Local |
18 | | #25 in 1972, and later
served as the Business Manager/Financial |
19 | | Secretary and Fund Administrator for the Pension, Health
& |
20 | | Welfare Fund; during his career, he became both a regional and |
21 | | statewide leader, serving as a
Trustee on the Tri-City Building |
22 | | Trades Council and as Vice-President of the Illinois Pipe |
23 | | Trades
Association; he retired from the union in 2000; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, In 2003, Representative Verschoore joined the |
2 | | Illinois General Assembly, where he
became an advocate for the |
3 | | middle class, fought for the rights of working families, and |
4 | | focused on
improving educational opportunities for all |
5 | | children; he fought for economic development projects
that |
6 | | provided good-paying jobs to workers in the Quad Cities region |
7 | | and passed laws to allow Rock
Island schools to generate more |
8 | | needed revenue, protect workers by requiring tougher penalties |
9 | | for speeding in construction zones, and laws that ensured the |
10 | | protection of the rights of Illinois veterans
and the elderly |
11 | | and their families; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Representative Verschoore has committed himself |
13 | | to serving his community through
his volunteer work for Habitat |
14 | | for Humanity, the Boys & Girls Club, Gilda's Club, Building for
|
15 | | Kids, Hearts & Hammers, and as a member of St. Patrick Catholic |
16 | | Church in Rock Island; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Representative Verschoore is most proud of his |
18 | | wife, Char; his son, Chuck; and his
grandchildren, who have |
19 | | stood by his side during his career; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, All who had the honor to serve with Representative |
21 | | Verschoore will miss his
friendship, kindness, sincerity, and |
22 | | his unwavering commitment to his family, his community, and
the |

1 | | State of Illinois; therefore, be it

2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
3 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
4 | | congratulate and thank State Representative
Patrick J. |
5 | | Verschoore for his years of dedicated service; and be it |
6 | | further
