2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Chief Tony Hernandez on | ||||||
4 | the occasion of his retirement as the Law Office Manager to the | ||||||
5 | Legal Counsel to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in | ||||||
6 | the Pentagon; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, On November 23, 1992, at the age of 17, Tony | ||||||
8 | Hernandez enlisted in the United States Navy and attended | ||||||
9 | Recruit Training in Orlando, Florida; in March 1993, he | ||||||
10 | reported to his first command on the USS Savannah, homeported | ||||||
11 | in Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as an undesignated Seaman | ||||||
12 | in the Deck Department; while onboard, he completed his first | ||||||
13 | Mediterranean deployment and numerous other underway command | ||||||
14 | exercises; in July of 1994, he was promoted to the rank of | ||||||
15 | Boatswain Mate Third Class Petty Officer; upon the | ||||||
16 | decommissioning of the USS Savannah in July of 1995, he | ||||||
17 | reported to Assault Craft Unit 2, located in Little Creek, | ||||||
18 | Virginia, where he was assigned to Landing Craft Utility 1662 | ||||||
19 | as the Leading Boatswain Mate; he was then deployed on his | ||||||
20 | second major deployment with the USS Saipan and earned his | ||||||
21 | Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist device; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, After his successful tour at Assault Craft Unit 2, | ||||||
23 | Tony Hernandez transferred to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2, |

| |||||||
1 | located in Little Creek, Virginia, in March of 1998; as a | ||||||
2 | qualified Assault Boat Coxswain and a 15-Ton Mobile Crane | ||||||
3 | operator, he was deployed to Cape Canaveral, Florida as a Heavy | ||||||
4 | Lift Operator in support of the United States Air Force Titan | ||||||
5 | IV Spacecraft Recovery; in July of 1999, he was promoted to the | ||||||
6 | rank of Petty Officer Second Class and was selected as the | ||||||
7 | MDSU-2 FY-99 Senior Shore Sailor of the Year, becoming the only | ||||||
8 | non-United States Navy Diver to be selected for the | ||||||
9 | designation; and

10 | WHEREAS, In May of 2001, Tony Hernandez was accepted for a | ||||||
11 | lateral conversion to the Legalman (LN) rating and reported for | ||||||
12 | duty under instruction to Naval Justice School in Newport, | ||||||
13 | Rhode Island; after completing LN "A" School, he was converted | ||||||
14 | to Legalman Second Class (LN2) in July of 2001; his first | ||||||
15 | Legalman tour was at Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland, where | ||||||
16 | he served in the Staff Judge Advocate Office as the Command | ||||||
17 | Legalman; in June of 2003, he was promoted to Petty Officer | ||||||
18 | First Class; in April of 2004, he reported to the USS Carl | ||||||
19 | Vinson, homeported in Bremerton, Washington, where he served as | ||||||
20 | the leading Petty Officer in the Legal Department; while | ||||||
21 | onboard, he was deployed to his third major deployment, which | ||||||
22 | included combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi | ||||||
23 | Freedom, and earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist | ||||||
24 | device; and

1 | WHEREAS, In October of 2006, Chief Tony Hernandez reported | ||||||
2 | to the Office of the Judge Advocate General, located in the | ||||||
3 | Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., where he served as the Executive | ||||||
4 | Assistant to the Command Master Chief and Command Career | ||||||
5 | Counselor to the Naval Legal Service Commands; in September of | ||||||
6 | 2009, he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer; in November of | ||||||
7 | 2009, he reported to the USS Essex, located in Sasebo, Japan, | ||||||
8 | where he served as the Independent Duty Legalman onboard; in | ||||||
9 | October of 2011, he assumed the duties as the Law Office | ||||||
10 | Manager to the Legal Counsel to the Chairman of the Joint | ||||||
11 | Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Chief Tony Hernandez's personal awards include | ||||||
13 | the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Navy and Marine | ||||||
14 | Corps Commendation Medals, five Navy and Marine Corps | ||||||
15 | Achievement Medals, and numerous campaign medals and ribbons; | ||||||
16 | and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Chief Tony Hernandez and his wife Denise live in | ||||||
18 | Hometown with their daughters, Maya and Elliana; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Chief Tony Hernandez serves as a model of hard | ||||||
20 | work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | ||||||
21 | Illinois; therefore, be it

22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

1 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
2 | congratulate Chief Tony Hernandez on the occasion of his | ||||||
