2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Conrad Walter Worrill | ||||||
4 | on the occasion of his retirement after 40 years of employment | ||||||
5 | at Northeastern Illinois University as Professor, Department | ||||||
6 | Chair, and Academic Program Coordinator, and 12 years as the | ||||||
7 | Director of the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City | ||||||
8 | Studies; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Conrad Worrill, an internationally-acclaimed | ||||||
10 | scholar, educator, and activist, received his bachelor's | ||||||
11 | degree from George Williams College, his master's degree from | ||||||
12 | the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. from the University of | ||||||
13 | Wisconsin; his major field of study has been black political | ||||||
14 | and movement history, social theory, and curriculum and | ||||||
15 | instruction, with emphasis on the delivery of social and | ||||||
16 | educational services in the African American community; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, For over 50 years, Dr. Conrad Worrill has been an | ||||||
18 | active participant in the black power, civil rights, and human | ||||||
19 | rights movements; he has served as the chairman of the National | ||||||
20 | Black United Front for 26 years and is now the group's chairman | ||||||
21 | emeritus; he was also the special consultant for field | ||||||
22 | operations for the historic Million Man March, a lifetime | ||||||
23 | member for the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in |

1 | America, and a street organizer for Harold Washington's mayoral | ||||||
2 | campaign; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Dr. Conrad Worrill is a member of the Kemetic | ||||||
4 | Institute, the Association for the Study of Classical African | ||||||
5 | Civilizations, the Communiversity, the Universal Negro | ||||||
6 | Improvement Association-African Communities League, and the | ||||||
7 | Association of African Historians; he also served as a board | ||||||
8 | member of the Black United Fund of Illinois for 30 years; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Conrad Worrill's work has been nationally | ||||||
10 | known since 1983 through a syndicated column in major African | ||||||
11 | American newspapers around the country and his writings have | ||||||
12 | appeared in numerous publications in the U.S.; he was a radio | ||||||
13 | talk show host on Chicago's WVON Radio for over 10 years; he is | ||||||
14 | also a knowledgeable and dynamic speaker and is constantly | ||||||
15 | requested to lecture all over the world; and

16 | WHEREAS, Dr. Conrad Worrill's activism has been | ||||||
17 | distinguished by his leadership in organizations and | ||||||
18 | activities that have been at the forefront of social and racial | ||||||
19 | justice, African-centered education, African liberation, and | ||||||
20 | self-determination for people of African descent; he has | ||||||
21 | advanced causes such as educational restructuring, human | ||||||
22 | rights, reparations, and political empowerment for the black | ||||||
23 | community; his life's work has demonstrated his commitment to |

1 | "speaking truly and doing right"; therefore, be it
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
3 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
4 | congratulate Dr. Conrad W. Worrill on the occasion of his | ||||||
5 | retirement and thank him for his years of dedication and | ||||||
6 | service to the communities he has helped throughout his career; | ||||||
7 | and be it further

8 | RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to | ||||||
9 | Dr. Conrad Worrill as a token of our respect and esteem.
