HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize  the 90th anniversary of the 
4founding of Saint Tarcissus Catholic Parish in Chicago; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Father Hayden was appointed by Cardinal Mundelein 
6to found Saint Tarcissus in 1926; the parishioners themselves 
7built the original church structure; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, In 1940, Saint Tarcissus Parish built a social 
9center; the cornerstone of the present church was laid on May 
1023, 1953; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The first Mass was celebrated in the current 
12church on Easter Sunday of 1954; the church was formally

13dedicated by Cardinal Stritch on July 25 that same year; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Saint Tarcissus has brought together Roman 
15Catholics of Bohemian, Filipino, Irish, Italian, German,

16Mexican, Polish, Puerto Rican, and Slovak descent in the 
17Gladstone Park neighborhood of Chicago; and
  
 

  
18    WHEREAS, Saint Tarcissus has continued its proud history of 
19bringing young people together through prayer, with a family

20prayer garden being installed on the east side of the rectory

1in 2008; therefore, be it
  
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
3NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
4recognize  the 90th anniversary of the founding of Saint 
5Tarcissus Catholic Parish and we wish them continued success 
6and happiness in the future; and be it further
  
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8presented to the congregation at Saint Tarcissus as an 
9expression of our esteem and respect.
