2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to honor the life and legacy of Rolando |
4 | | Juan Correa; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Rolando Correa was born in Manati, Puerto Rico and |
6 | | moved to Chicago at age eight; overcoming the grim obstacles of |
7 | | urban disparity, he was awarded an ASPIRA scholarship to pursue |
8 | | higher education in Puerto Rico; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Rolando Correa proudly served in Vietnam with the |
10 | | United States Army as a door gunner, protecting medical |
11 | | helicopters as they evacuated wounded soldiers; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Rolando Correa managed one of the first |
13 | | registration campaign drives of Latino voters in Chicago; in |
14 | | the summer of 1980, during his tenure with the Puerto Rican |
15 | | Parade Committee, he followed the call to celebrate Puerto |
16 | | Rican arts and culture by bringing Las Fiestas Patronales to |
17 | | Humboldt Park; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Rolando Correa worked for the County of Cook, the |
19 | | City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Rolando Correa, after more than 43 combined years |

1 | | as a co-founder, staff member, and board member, was appointed |
2 | | Executive Director in 2005 and President and CEO in 2013 of |
3 | | Rincon Family Services; under his leadership, the |
4 | | organizational budget, staff, and community presence through |
5 | | acquisition of new facilities more than doubled in the last |
6 | | three years; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Rolando Correa and his wife of 44 years, Graciela, |
8 | | have two children, Rolando Jr. and Cristina, and five |
9 | | grandchildren; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Rolando Correa will be remembered fondly for his |
11 | | dedication to creating an environment of respect and compassion |
12 | | for all he encountered, his commitment to the city's most |
13 | | vulnerable populations, and his role as a devoted guardian of |
14 | | the communities he loved; therefore, be it

15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
16 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
17 | | honor the life and legacy of Rolando Juan Correa and pay |
18 | | tribute to his work in the City of Chicago and beyond; and be |
19 | | it further

20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 | | presented to the family of Rolando Juan Correa as a symbol of |
22 | | our esteem and respect.
