|
2 | | WHEREAS, On June 7, 2016, five police officers were
|
3 | | murdered in Dallas, Texas; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Four of those officers were members of the Dallas |
5 | | Police Department; one was an officer with the Dallas Area |
6 | | Rapid Transit police force; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, At the time of their deaths, the officers were |
8 | | performing their sworn duty,
guarding civilians during an |
9 | | emotionally bitter protest march that was being actively |
10 | | covered by the
news media; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, As a result of these officers performing their |
12 | | duties by standing guard, the killer knew exactly where they |
13 | | would be and was able to set up positions from which to ambush |
14 | | them; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, In addition to the police officers who were |
16 | | killed, six other police officers and one
civilian were |
17 | | injured; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, The death toll of this incident, and the |
19 | | circumstances surrounding the shootings, have
led it to be |
20 | | characterized as one of the worst atrocities in the history of |

1 | | United States urban violence; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, The circumstances of this incident make it all the |
3 | | more essential that Americans respond
as members of a common |
4 | | society and country, this response being the best (and possibly |
5 | | the only)
way to avoid spiraling downhill into a mental state |
6 | | of hatred, fear, and bitterness; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, The fallen Dallas Police Department officers are |
8 | | Lorne Ahrens, Michael Krol, Michael Smith, and Patrick |
9 | | Zamarripa; the fallen Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer is |
10 | | Brent Thompson; they, and their fellow officers who
were |
11 | | injured or maimed in this incident, will be remembered on the |
12 | | honor roll of their service by the
police officers and |
13 | | civilians of the United States; therefore, be it
|
14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
15 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
16 | | pay solemn tribute to the memories of
the fallen officers of |
17 | | Dallas, Texas, and to the traditions of service for which they |
18 | | and their families paid the
ultimate sacrifice; and be it |
19 | | further |
20 | | RESOLVED, That we mark the adoption of this resolution with |
21 | | a moment of
silent reflection in honor of these fallen heroes |
22 | | of American law enforcement; and be it further

1 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution shall be |
2 | | presented to the Chiefs of Police of the
Dallas Police |
3 | | Department and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police Department, |
4 | | as tokens of the
honor paid by Illinois to these fallen and |
5 | | wounded officers, and as an expression of due deference to
the |
6 | | police officers of the United States.
