| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Mark McLeRoy on his |
| 4 | | retirement and recognize his many years of public service; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mark McLeRoy's political career included serving |
| 6 | | as Alderman for the Freeport City Council from 1961 to 1969, |
| 7 | | Mayor of the City of Freeport from 1969 to 1989, Chairman of |
| 8 | | the Stephenson County Republican Party from 1990 to 1992, and |
| 9 | | Stephenson County Board Member from 1990 to 2002; he was also a |
| 10 | | Stephenson County Republican Precinct Committeeman at various |
| 11 | | times from 1960 to 1994 for a total of 18 years; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure as Freeport Mayor, Mark McLeRoy |
| 13 | | was a member of the Northern Illinois Mayors Association from |
| 14 | | 1969 to 1989 where he served as
President from 1974 to 1975; |
| 15 | | and a member of the Illinois Municipal League Board of |
| 16 | | Directors
from 1973 to 1989, serving as President from 1982 to |
| 17 | | 1983; he was invited to the White House by President Ronald |
| 18 | | Reagan
in 1983 and was appointed to the Illinois Local |
| 19 | | Government Law Enforcement Officers Training Board
from 1985 to |
| 20 | | 1989 by Governor James Thompson; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure as a Stephenson County Board |
| 22 | | Member, Mark McLeRoy served on the United Counties Council of |
|

from 1999 to 2016 (Treasurer |

from 1998 to 2002, as the |

| 8 | | WHEREAS, Mark McLeRoy has an extensive volunteerism |
| 9 | | career; he coached in the Freeport Grade School League

| 10 | | 1945 to 1957 and was one of three individuals to help organize |
| 11 | | Freeport Little League Baseball
in 1951 where he coached from |
| 12 | | 1952 to 1964; he was a member of the Salvation Army Advisory |
| 13 | | Board
from 1971 to 1978, a member of the Norman Sleezer |
| 14 | | Juvenile Home Board
from 1981 to 1989 (President four years), a |
| 15 | | member of the Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging Board

| 16 | | from 1991 to 2012, serving at times as Finance Chairman, Vice |
| 17 | | President, and President; and a member of the State Legislative |
| 18 | | Committee for the American Association of
Retired Persons |
| 19 | | (AARP)
from 1995 to 2000; he received a Congressional |
| 20 | | Appointment to the White House Conference
on Aging in 1995 and |
| 21 | | worked with FHN Meals on Wheels
from 2005 to 2015; and

| 22 | | WHEREAS, Mark McLeRoy married Shirley J. Pohl in Freeport |
| 23 | | on April 30, 1954; their daughters are Sue (Jeffrey) Hartman |
| 24 | | and Patti (Steve) Rhode; their granddaughters are Lauren (Nate) |
|

| 1 | | Simonton and Emily Rhode; their grandson is Mark Rhode;
and |
| 2 | | their great-granddaughter is Gianna S. Simonton; and

| 3 | | WHEREAS, Mark McLeRoy is a 33rd Degree Mason; therefore, be |
| 4 | | it

| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 6 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 7 | | wish to congratulate Mark McLeRoy on his retirement and |
| 8 | | recognize his many years of public service and we wish him the |
| 9 | | best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 11 | | presented to Mark McLeRoy as a symbol of our respect and |
| 12 | | esteem.
