HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Robert Ellis Atherton on 
4the occasion of his retirement from the Illinois State Police 
5on June 30, 2016; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Atherton earned his Associate in Applied 
7Science in 1986 and his Bachelor of Science in 1998; he 
8graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National 
9Academy in 2007; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Robert Atherton worked for the City of Polo Police 
11Department from 1988 to 1990; in 1990, he graduated from

12Illinois State Police Cadet Class 88  and joined the Illinois 
13State Police, where he was assigned to District 7 (Rock 
14Island);
he was promoted to District 7 Sergeant in 1997, to 
15District 7 Master Sergeant in 2000, and to District 7 
16Lieutenant in 2006; he held interim District Commander 
17positions in District 7, 16, and 17 from 2008 to 2013; he was 
18promoted to District 7 and 17 Captain  in 2013; he was appointed 
19to Major of Region II Commander in 2015; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Robert Atherton has been involved with numerous 
21organizations, including the Hampton Elementary School Board 
22(Past President, Vice-President, and Member),
the Illinois

1State Police Command Council (Past Chairman, Treasurer, and 
2Region Representative),
the Quad City Council of Police Chiefs 
3(Past Member, Secretary/Treasurer),
FBI National Academy 
4Associates,
Illinois Winter Special Olympics (Volunteer),
and 
5Hampton Elementary Sports (Volunteer, Coach); and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Atherton was named the Sauk Valley 
7Community College 2014 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year; he 
8received National Veterans Awareness Ride Recognition in 2010, 
92012, and 2014; he received the
Illini Hospital Outstanding 
10Community Service Award in 2001; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Atherton has been married to Rebecca for 25 
12years and they have one daughter, Karina; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
15congratulate Robert Ellis Atherton on his retirement from the 
16Illinois State Police and we wish him the best in all his 
17future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to Robert Atherton as an expression of our esteem and 
20respect.
