HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives have learned with great sadness of the passing
4of activist, educator, and public official Barbara Brown; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Barb Brown, as she was very fondly known, left a
6lasting legacy during her career that mentored hundreds of
7students from across the world, worked tirelessly for a wide
8range of candidates for public office, important public policy
9goals, and many community causes; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Barb, widely published in her field, taught with
11distinction at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and
12for four decades she added to the celebration of faith for
13parishioners from the keyboard of the organ at St. Mary's
14Catholic Church in Ellis Grove; and
 
15    WHEREAS, She will be admired and remembered as a loving
16daughter, sister, mother, wife, and grandmother; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Barb worked with unmatched dedication on the
18election of numerous candidates including President Obama and
19President Clinton; and
 
20    WHEREAS, She was elected nine times as a delegate to her

1party's national convention and four times as Randolph County
2Circuit Court Clerk; and
 
3    WHEREAS, She is remembered as the former head of Illinois
4Democratic Women and a co-founder and former President of the
5Illinois Women's Institute for Leadership; she spearheaded the
6Randolph County Relay For Life to fight for a cure for the
7cancer that she battled twice in her life; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10express our profound sympathies and hopes for comfort and
11strength for Barb Brown's husband, Richard, and their children
12and spouses, Jay and Gabriella, Matthew and Ann, and Nathaniel;
13and to her grandchildren and siblings; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Barb Brown as an expression of our
16deepest sympathies.
