2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Harvey |
4 | | Nathaniel, who passed away on April 25, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel was born in Webb, Mississippi to |
6 | | Verlee and Johnny Nathaniel on December 16, 1942; he was |
7 | | baptized at Metropolitan
Baptist Church in 1953; he obtained |
8 | | his education in Chicago at Douglas Elementary School,
John |
9 | | Marshall High School, and Roosevelt University; in 1963, he |
10 | | enlisted in
the United States Army, where he achieved the rank |
11 | | of Sergeant and received an Honorable
Discharge; he married |
12 | | Lorraine Alston in June of 1972; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel worked for Zenith as a general
|
14 | | manager until 1980; he began a successful career with the City |
15 | | of Chicago beginning in
1980; he was Deputy Assessor for Cook |
16 | | County, Precinct Captain for the
9th ward, Secretary of the |
17 | | Democratic organization for the 9th ward,
Foreman for Streets |
18 | | and Sanitation, Assistant Ward Superintendent for the 9th
ward, |
19 | | President of the Democratic Party for the 28th Ward, and Ward
|
20 | | Superintendent of the 28th Ward; he retired after 32 years of |
21 | | service to the City of
Chicago; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel was active in his community and |

1 | | with veterans; he was Treasurer
of New Voice Community |
2 | | Prevention Service and President of Guardians of
the People; |
3 | | and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel enjoyed fishing, telling |
5 | | stories, and making up contests such as
the Best Christmas |
6 | | Lights Contest; his greatest joys were his grandkids, Jordan |
7 | | and Justin; he loved to watch them play sports and take them to |
8 | | different
restaurants and play with them their favorite game, |
9 | | Hide and
Seek; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel was preceded in death by his |
11 | | mother, Verlee (Willie) Jackson; his father,
Johnny Nathaniel; |
12 | | and his brothers, Johnny, Charles, Walter, and Leon; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Harvey Nathaniel is survived by his daughter, |
14 | | Nerlean
Iva (Phillip) Nathaniel; his granddaughter, Jordan; |
15 | | his grandson, Justin; his sisters, Nerlean
(Elbert), Darlean, |
16 | | Earlean (Sam), Eileen, Margaree, and Verlee (Leaonard);
his |
17 | | brothers, Willie and Ernest; and a host of nieces, nephews, |
18 | | cousins, and
friends; therefore, be it

19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
20 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
21 | | mourn the passing of Harvey Nathaniel, and extend our sincere |
22 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
