HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate  James Buchanan on the 
4occasion of his retirement as Business Manager of Pipe Fitters 
5Local 597; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, James Buchanan completed his 5-year 
7apprenticeship in 1975; he is also a Certified Welder; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, James Buchanan served as a Business 
9Representative for Pipe Fitters Local 597 from 1998 to 2001; he 
10served as a Delegate for the Chicago Federation of Labor from 
111991 to 1998; he has been a Building Trades Journeyman since 
121975; he also attended United Association Conventions as a 
13delegate in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, and 2011; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, James Buchanan has served as Business Manager of 
15Pipe Fitters Local 597 since 2001; as Business Manager, he has 
16managed the day-to-day operations for Local 597's 10,300-plus 
17members; he serves as Chairman of the Local's Pension Fund and 
18as Trustee of the Local's Welfare Fund, 401(k) Plan, and 
19Wholesalers Pension Plan; he also oversees 14 full-time 
20business representatives covering 23 counties, 18 in Illinois 
21and 5 in northwest Indiana; he also serves as the United 
22Association's District 4 Vice-President; and

1    WHEREAS, James Buchanan is a member of numerous 
2organizations, including the Chicago and Cook County Building 
3and Construction Trades Council, the United Association 
4Reciprocity Committee, the Amalgamated Bank Labor Council, the 
5Plumbers Local 130 St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, the 
6UA/BM Jurisdiction Committee/International, the Resolution and 
7Laws Committees of the United Association National Convention, 
8the Local 597 Apprenticeship Committee, Pirates, Inc. (a 
9charitable organization for aid to children with Down 
10Syndrome), and the RTA Board; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, James Buchanan serves as a model of hard work, 
12integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
13Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
16congratulate James Buchanan on the occasion of his retirement 
17and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and 
18be it further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to James Buchanan as a symbol of our esteem and 
21respect.
