2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sondra | ||||||
4 | Lea Hecox of St. Charles, who passed away on March 19, 2016; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox was born in Clarion, Iowa to Irvin | ||||||
7 | and Freda Harmon on August 28,
1936; she attended Iowa State | ||||||
8 | University in Ames, Iowa and the American Business Institute; | ||||||
9 | she married Dale Hecox on June 7, 1956; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox worked for the City of Iowa City, | ||||||
11 | Iowa until her husband completed his education; they then moved | ||||||
12 | to Oak Park, where she
worked as Director of Personnel for the | ||||||
13 | Sunbeam Corporation; she kept that position until her first | ||||||
14 | daughter was born, at which time she
became a full-time | ||||||
15 | homemaker and moved to Elmhurst; she and her family moved to | ||||||
16 | St. Charles in 1988; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox loved the Republican Party, and she | ||||||
18 | and her husband came to represent
all that was best about the | ||||||
19 | Grand Old Party; Senators, Congressmen, and political leaders | ||||||
20 | all sought her counsel and approval; she was a tireless | ||||||
21 | Republican advocate and volunteer; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox was a precinct committeewoman for | ||||||
2 | years in St. Charles; she walked her
precinct and other | ||||||
3 | precincts, making sure everyone knew about Republican | ||||||
4 | candidates; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox was involved in practically | ||||||
6 | everything related to the Kane County Republican Party; she | ||||||
7 | organized every event from the booth at the county fair to | ||||||
8 | fundraising events to staffing the office; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox and her husband were awarded | ||||||
10 | President George W. Bush's
Crystal Award in 2004 for their | ||||||
11 | volunteer efforts in Kane County; she was also voted the Kane | ||||||
12 | County
Republican of the Year in 2004; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox and her husband were honored with a | ||||||
14 | Lifetime Achievement
Award in 2012 from the Kane County | ||||||
15 | Republican Party; she volunteered in many election
campaigns on | ||||||
16 | the federal, State, and county level, and her enthusiasm | ||||||
17 | engaged everyone who
knew her; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox loved gardening and landscaping; she | ||||||
19 | was a member of the Pottawatomie
Garden Club, participating in | ||||||
20 | their shows and events; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox is survived by her loving husband, |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | Dale; her two daughters, Sharon Grether and Susan Sherman; one | ||||||
2 | granddaughter; and three grandsons; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
4 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
5 | mourn the passing of Sondra Lea Hecox, and extend our sincere | ||||||
6 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
7 | her; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of Sondra Hecox as an expression of our | ||||||
10 | deepest sympathy.
