2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Pastor |
4 | | J.C. Coleman, Jr., who passed away on February 1, 2016 at the |
5 | | age of 70; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was born on September 25, |
7 | | 1945 in Catron, Missouri; his parents were J.C. Coleman, Sr. |
8 | | and Eupha Lee Branch Coleman; he moved to North Chicago with |
9 | | his parents at a very early age; he remained there through high |
10 | | school, where he played football and was a State champion |
11 | | wrestler; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Pastor J.C. |
13 | | Coleman, Jr. immediately enlisted in the United States Army |
14 | | during the Vietnam era; he was honorably discharged in 1967; |
15 | | and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, After his military service, Pastor J.C. Coleman, |
17 | | Jr. served Mt. Sinai Baptist Church faithfully as a Sunday |
18 | | school teacher for several years; he later moved his membership |
19 | | to Antioch Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend |
20 | | Perry, where he was ordained as a Deacon and later accepted his |
21 | | call into the ministry; he subsequently attended McKinley |
22 | | Theological Seminary, where he earned an associate's degree; |

2 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was a faithful member of |
3 | | the New Era District for many years, serving as Secretary to 4 |
4 | | Moderators, including Reverend Blackwell, Reverend Lightfoot, |
5 | | and currently Pastor Roberson; in 2006, he was called to serve |
6 | | as Pastor at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Waukegan, |
7 | | where he served faithfully until his passing; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was an avid sportsman; he |
9 | | continued playing football in the Army and on 2 |
10 | | semi-professional teams, the Lake County Rifles and the Racine |
11 | | Raiders; he also spent many years as a referee on the high |
12 | | school level; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. loved his community and |
14 | | was a community activist who never hesitated to speak up for |
15 | | what he believed was right for the community; he supported and |
16 | | remained active in his community, coaching football for Holy |
17 | | Family School, helping to organize and coach the Flames for the |
18 | | North Chicago Park District, and helping to coach football and |
19 | | wrestling at North Chicago High School; he also organized and |
20 | | coached track and field for the Park District and served for |
21 | | one year as an assistant coach for the St. Joseph High School |
22 | | of Kenosha Track and Field team, where he led the girls team to |
23 | | victory at the Wisconsin state track meet for the first time in |

1 | | the school's history; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was a Boy Scout leader |
3 | | for several years; he enjoyed teaching and working with young |
4 | | people, fishing, hunting, and gardening; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. was preceded in death by |
6 | | his parents; and

7 | | WHEREAS, Pastor J.C. Coleman, Jr. is survived by his |
8 | | devoted wife, Inette Coleman, whom he married on August 12, |
9 | | 1967; his sons, Jarrod (Joyce) Coleman, Courtney (Abby) Johns, |
10 | | Ryan Eatmon, and Javontay Connor; his daughters, Cydney (Eric) |
11 | | Matthews, Pamela (Trevor) Daly, Kristal (Robert) Cross, and |
12 | | Kathy (Nathaniel) Hall; his grandchildren, Patrick, Jarrod, |
13 | | Jonathan, Pierce, and Joyce Coleman, Brianna, Amber, and Erica |
14 | | Mathews, Leila Eatmon, Nicholas and Madisen Daly, and Kennedy |
15 | | Elise Hall; his brothers, Michael (Margaret) Coleman, Willie |
16 | | (Melinda) Coleman, Dennis (Cheryl) Coleman, and Gerald |
17 | | (Cheryl) Coleman; his sisters, Pauline (Joe) Flowers and Betty |
18 | | Dean Jones; and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other |
19 | | relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
