2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Lillian K. Savage De Pew | ||||||
4 | Bennett on the occasion of her 100th birthday on February 24, | ||||||
5 | 2016; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Lillian Savage De Pew Bennett was born on February | ||||||
7 | 24, 1916 in Waukegan; she married Alfred De Pew in 1935 in | ||||||
8 | North Chicago; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Lillian Savage De Pew Bennett's youth was spent in | ||||||
10 | several homes in Waukegan, including homes on the 800 block of | ||||||
11 | Franklin Street, the 900 block of Jackson Street, East 17th | ||||||
12 | Street, Victory Street, McAlister Street, Clarke Avenue, | ||||||
13 | Clarkson Street, and Victoria Avenue in North Chicago; she | ||||||
14 | attended North School, Central School, West School, Whittier | ||||||
15 | School, and Waukegan High School; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, During her life, Lillian Savage De Pew Bennett has | ||||||
17 | seen amazing things, such as the in-home use of electricity and | ||||||
18 | the evolution of many inventions, such as the telephone, the | ||||||
19 | Internet, the automobile, and the airplane and has seen them | ||||||
20 | become a mainstay of the modern world; she has also survived | ||||||
21 | the Great Depression, World War II, and managed to raise 2 | ||||||
22 | children by herself while her husband was deployed overseas |

1 | with the United States Merchant Marine; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Lillian Savage De Pew Bennett is well known in her | ||||||
3 | community for the sewing clubs she started for all of the girls | ||||||
4 | in her neighborhood from the 1940s into the 1980s; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lillian Savage De Pew Bennett has 4 children, | ||||||
6 | David, Marie, Kathy, and Dean; 14 grandchildren; 18 | ||||||
7 | great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; she also | ||||||
8 | has one living brother, Glenn; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Lillian Savage De Pew Bennett has served as a | ||||||
10 | mother, matriarch, mentor, friend, and as a huge inspiration to | ||||||
11 | all who have known and loved her and have been the recipients | ||||||
12 | of her love and guidance; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Lillian Savage De Pew Bennett will celebrate her | ||||||
14 | 100th birthday on February 20, 2016 with a celebration at | ||||||
15 | Gurnee Community Church in Gurnee; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
17 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
18 | congratulate Lillian K. Savage De Pew Bennett on the occasion | ||||||
19 | of her 100th birthday and wish her continued success and | ||||||
20 | happiness in the future; and be it further
