HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Board of Trustees of Illinois State University began its service in January of 1996 with the mission to assure that students at the University were receiving the highest quality education possible and that tax and tuition dollars were being used wisely; and

WHEREAS, Since January of 1996, the Board of Trustees has held 80 quarterly meetings, along with numerous special meetings, work sessions, and retreats; there are 18 past and present Board members - each appointed by the Governor; 18 students have served as Board members, with full voting privileges, each elected by their student peers; members serve without compensation; and

WHEREAS, The Board of Trustees was instrumental in the development and updating of the University's strategic plan, Educating Illinois, and the Campus Master Plan; and

WHEREAS, The Board of Trustees provided leadership for the University's first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign, Redefining "Normal"; and

WHEREAS, The Board of Trustees has provided leadership for numerous campus construction and renovation projects, including the State Farm Hall of Business, the Center for the Performing Arts, Hancock Stadium, Cardinal Court Apartments, Student Fitness Center/McCormick Hall, along with many others; and

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, Illinois State University has grown substantially in academic reputation and international prominence; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank the members of the Board of Trustees of Illinois State University for their service to the students of Illinois State University; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the members of the Board of Trustees.
