2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Janice Bennett on the |
4 | | occasion of her retirement as President and CEO of YWCA Lake |
5 | | County; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Janice Bennett assumed leadership of YWCA Lake |
7 | | County in December of 2010; her accomplishments include |
8 | | launching numerous new programs
and expanding existing |
9 | | programs to better serve the residents of Lake
County, |
10 | | including: the Early Childhood Center at Redeemer Church for |
11 | | 3-5
year-old children; the Financial Literacy for Victims of |
12 | | Domestic Violence
program; the Jumpstart Your Business/Plan |
13 | | for Profit Entrepreneurial
program; the Veterans |
14 | | Transportation & Job Readiness program, a
partnership with the |
15 | | Illinois Veterans Administration and the Captain
James A. |
16 | | Lovell Federal Healthcare Center for Homeless Veterans;
|
17 | | ExceleRate, a statewide quality rating and improvement systems
|
18 | | program; and an expansion of the Women's Health program which |
19 | | now
includes mandatory Breast Health Awareness sessions and a |
20 | | new database
tracker for demographics and navigational |
21 | | services; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, One of the key highlights during Janice Bennett's |
23 | | tenure was moving YWCA Lake County's physical office facilities
|

1 | | from Waukegan to a new, larger, and more centralized location |
2 | | in Gurnee and developing stronger
relationships with civic and |
3 | | community leadership throughout the County; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Janice Bennett's career spans more than 25 years |
5 | | in philanthropy with private and community foundations,
|
6 | | corporate charitable giving programs, and in marketing, |
7 | | communications, and finance; her career includes
positions |
8 | | with The Chicago Community Trust responsible for a grant making |
9 | | portfolio that supported
funding to women's organizations such |
10 | | as the Women in Trades, the Women's Business Development
|
11 | | Center, and the Women's Self Employment Project; she also |
12 | | administered several programs
housed at the Trust, including: |
13 | | the Community Service Fellowship Program, which identified
|
14 | | individuals that demonstrated community service and leadership |
15 | | capabilities and awarded these
community leaders with |
16 | | fellowship assistance to conduct research and study the best |
17 | | practices and programs
around the world that could be used to |
18 | | improve the lives of families and communities throughout the
|
19 | | region; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, At the Michael Jordan Foundation, Janice Bennett |
21 | | worked directly with Michael Jordan, his family, and
the |
22 | | governing board in charitable grantmaking that focused on |
23 | | education (K-16), children, and youth
programs; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Before entering the not-for-profit sector, Janice |
2 | | Bennett held positions as Vice-President in Corporate
Strategy |
3 | | and Corporate Finance departments at Chase Bank (1st Chicago); |
4 | | a Senior
Manager/Consultant at Accenture (Andersen |
5 | | Consulting); and Director of Corporate Communications
for an |
6 | | east coast telecommunications company where she was |
7 | | responsible for corporate charitable
giving; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Janice Bennett will be honored at a reception at |
9 | | the Gurnee office of the YWCA Lake County on January 28, 2016; |
10 | | therefore, be it

11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
12 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
13 | | congratulate Janice Bennett on her retirement as President and |
14 | | CEO of YWCA Lake County, and we wish her the best in all her |
15 | | future endeavors; and be it further

16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
17 | | presented to Janice Bennett as an expression of our esteem and |
18 | | respect.
