HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. James A. Waldorf; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was born in East Moline to James "Roy" and Lois Waldorf; he served the Chicagoland area through many forms of community service; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was Dean and Assistant Principal at Proviso East High School from 1963 to 1978 and then Principal at Plainfield Central High School from 1978 to 1993; he served as Assistant Superintendent from 1993 to 1994 and as Principal at St. Mary Immaculate Parish School from 1994 to 2006; he was the Mayor of Plainfield from 2005 to 2009; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was essential in keeping Plainfield Central High School's responsibilities to its students after its building was destroyed in the tornado of 1990; he was responsible for leading the high school community and the relocation of the student body to the former Carmelite boys' high school in Joliet, which housed the students from Plainfield for several years until their new high school could be constructed; and

WHEREAS, Soon after Plainfield Central High School was opened, Dr. Waldorf left public education and was hired on as Principal of the newly rebuilt St. Mary Immaculate Parish School; in doing so, he played a major part in the construction of both Plainfield's private and public high school systems; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was also heavily involved within the communities he taught; he was President of the Plainfield Rotary, an avid member of the Knights of Columbus, and President of the Plainfield Food Pantry; he served on the YMCA Board for 15 years and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Plainfield; he was also active within Mainstreet Plainfield; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was a very warm individual known throughout the communities he served and will be remembered for his consistent offering of a grand smile and heartfelt "Good Morning"; his devotion to Plainfield's children, their families, and their education, as well as his various other services to the community will always be remembered fondly; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf leaves behind his beloved wife of 27 years, Mary Ann, their children, Rhea (James) Scheuing, Nicola Waldorf, Michael (Jennifer) LaMontagna, and Joseph (Jamie) LaMontagna, and their grandchildren Dane, Brenna, Maura, Ava, and Franco; he was also the dear brother of Michael and Christine and the fond uncle to numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. James A. Waldorf, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Waldorf as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
