1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the administration, | ||||||
4 | teachers, and students of Longfellow Elementary School on the | ||||||
5 | occasion of the school's designation as a National Blue Ribbon | ||||||
6 | School by the United States Department of Education; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program | ||||||
8 | recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high | ||||||
9 | schools where students either achieve high learning standards | ||||||
10 | or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement | ||||||
11 | gap; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Longfellow Elementary School was recognized in | ||||||
13 | the category of Exemplary High Performing Schools, which are | ||||||
14 | among the State's highest performing schools as measured by | ||||||
15 | State assessments or national tests; the category also | ||||||
16 | recognizes the highest levels of student subgroup performance | ||||||
17 | and high school graduation rates; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Longfellow Elementary School touts its small | ||||||
19 | class sizes and has just 4 classrooms at each grade level from | ||||||
20 | kindergarten to fifth grade, with an average of 23 students per | ||||||
21 | class; the school serves about 400 students and has a program | ||||||
22 | for English Language Learners, with 47 identified ELL students |

1 | speaking about 10 different languages or 19 home languages; the | ||||||
2 | school also has a full-time reading specialist and a part-time | ||||||
3 | reading teacher available to teach at-risk students in small | ||||||
4 | groups and has one of the district's largest gifted programs, | ||||||
5 | which teaches 46 intermediate students in reading and math; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Longfellow Elementary School will be officially | ||||||
7 | recognized at a ceremony on November 9-10, 2015 in Washington, | ||||||
8 | D.C.; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, The administration, teachers, and students of | ||||||
10 | Longfellow Elementary School serve as models of hard work, | ||||||
11 | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | ||||||
12 | Illinois; therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
14 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
15 | congratulate the administration, teachers, and students of | ||||||
16 | Longfellow Elementary School on the occasion of the school's | ||||||
17 | designation as a National Blue Ribbon School by the United | ||||||
18 | States Department of Education and wish them continued success | ||||||
19 | and happiness in the future; and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to Longfellow Elementary School as a symbol of our | ||||||
22 | esteem and respect.
