2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Wynell Verrett-Butler on | ||||||
4 | the occasion of her 80th birthday; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler was born in Homer, | ||||||
6 | Louisiana on October 1, 1935, the youngest of 9 siblings; she | ||||||
7 | graduated from Homer Colored High School; she holds several | ||||||
8 | certificates of completion, including business administration, | ||||||
9 | labor relations, technical communications, how to deal with | ||||||
10 | difficult people, and many others; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler worked for Spiegel, Inc. | ||||||
12 | for 39 years; she worked her way up from a clerk to systems | ||||||
13 | engineer and developed the specifications for Vision 21 credit | ||||||
14 | systems; she was the only credit employee rehired as a | ||||||
15 | consultant after retirement; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler is an active member of | ||||||
17 | Ascension St. Susanna Catholic Church, where she serves in a | ||||||
18 | leadership capacity on many parish committees, including Chair | ||||||
19 | of the Parish Finance Advisory Council; she is active with many | ||||||
20 | organizations, including Gamaliel of Metro Chicago, Gamaliel | ||||||
21 | of Illinois, and the South Suburban Action Conference, where | ||||||
22 | she is currently serving as first Vice-President; she also |

1 | served for several years on the Executive Committee of the | ||||||
2 | Metropolitan Alliance of Congregation; she has been involved | ||||||
3 | with lobbying for tax equity, systemic education studies and | ||||||
4 | funding, the development of the first new homes to be built in | ||||||
5 | Harvey in more than 40 years, and the redevelopment of the | ||||||
6 | Ginger Ridge Mutual Housing Association and the McKinney Center | ||||||
7 | in Calumet City; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler is active with the national | ||||||
9 | association of the Knights and Ladies of St. Peter Claver, | ||||||
10 | where she serves as Junior Daughter Counselor and she recently | ||||||
11 | received an award as the Northern District Counselor of the | ||||||
12 | Year; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler has a personal relationship | ||||||
14 | with many of our elected officials, including President Obama; | ||||||
15 | and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler is the widow of Thomas Pitts | ||||||
17 | Butler, whom she spent 47 wonderful years of marriage with; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Wynell Verrett-Butler has 2 daughters, Mauretia | ||||||
19 | Verrett Carter (Jarvis) and Ericka Michelle Butler, 11 | ||||||
20 | grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and over 300 school and | ||||||
21 | community children who affectionately refer to her as "granny" | ||||||
22 | or "grandma"; she has over 150 nieces and nephews and |

1 | great-nieces and nephews and too many great-great-nieces and | ||||||
2 | nephews to count; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
4 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
5 | congratulate Wynell Verrett-Butler on her 80th birthday and we | ||||||
6 | wish her many more wonderful years; and be it further

7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to Wynell Verrett-Butler as an expression of our | ||||||
9 | esteem and respect.
