| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Sembu | ||||||
| 4 | Kanthilal on the occasion of receiving the 2015 Rural Physician | ||||||
| 5 | of Excellence Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across | ||||||
| 8 | our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural | ||||||
| 9 | settings; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Sembu Kanthilal graduated medical school from | ||||||
| 11 | the University of Madras in 1970; he went on to complete his | ||||||
| 12 | internship at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and later his | ||||||
| 13 | residency at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park | ||||||
| 14 | in 1977; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Sembu Kanthilal started his medical practice | ||||||
| 16 | in Beardstown in 1979; he currently serves as a family | ||||||
| 17 | practitioner at the Elmer Hugh Taylor Clinic; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Dr. Sembu Kanthilal is the Chief Medical Officer | ||||||
| 19 | at Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville; his | ||||||
| 20 | tireless commitment and innovation is credited for the | ||||||
| 21 | existence of the hospital's surgical department and Rural | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Health Clinic; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Dr. Sembu Kanthilal's extensive expertise as a | ||||||
| 3 | primary care physician and general surgeon has made it possible | ||||||
| 4 | for people in rural areas across a four-county region to access | ||||||
| 5 | healthcare in their own communities; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Sembu Kanthilal's talents go beyond medical | ||||||
| 7 | science and extend to the culinary arts, which is exemplified | ||||||
| 8 | in the baking he does for his staff, and the artistic design of | ||||||
| 9 | his holiday lights, which the whole community enjoys; | ||||||
| 10 | therefore, be it

| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 12 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 13 | thank Dr. Sembu Kanthilal for the selfless service he has | ||||||
| 14 | provided the residents of the western region of our State for | ||||||
| 15 | the past 33 years and the impact he has made on improving rural | ||||||
| 16 | health and wish him the best in his retirement; and be it | ||||||
| 17 | further

| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to Dr. Sembu Kanthilal as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 20 | esteem.
