2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Colonel Michael Zerbonia | ||||||
4 | on the occasion of his retirement from the Illinois State | ||||||
5 | Police on September 30, 2015, after 28 years of service; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Michael Zerbonia joined the Illinois State Police | ||||||
7 | on September 21, 1987 with his appointment to Cadet Class 82; | ||||||
8 | upon graduating, he was assigned to the District 3 Patrol in | ||||||
9 | Chicago; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Michael Zerbonia was promoted to the rank of | ||||||
11 | Sergeant in 1995; in 1996, he transferred to the Illinois State | ||||||
12 | Police Academy, where he worked to enhance the Academy's | ||||||
13 | physical skills section; in 1999, he was promoted to the rank | ||||||
14 | of Master Sergeant; in 2005, he was promoted to the rank of | ||||||
15 | Lieutenant; in 2009, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and | ||||||
16 | served as the Bureau Chief of Logistics; in 2010, he was | ||||||
17 | selected to serve as Bureau Chief of the Medicaid Fraud Control | ||||||
18 | Unit; in 2011, he was named as District Commander of District 9 | ||||||
19 | in Springfield, where he oversaw the Illinois State Fair and | ||||||
20 | State Inaugurations; in 2011, he was appointed to the rank of | ||||||
21 | Lieutenant Colonel; in 2012, he was appointed to the rank of | ||||||
22 | Colonel of the Division of Operations, where he served until | ||||||
23 | his retirement; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Michael Zerbonia is a Brigadier General in the | ||||||
2 | Illinois Army National Guard and was recently appointed as the | ||||||
3 | Assistant Adjutant General - Army; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Prior to his appointment as the Assistant Adjutant | ||||||
5 | General - Army, General Zerbonia was the Land Forces Component | ||||||
6 | Commander; he enlisted as a military policeman in the Missouri | ||||||
7 | Army National Guard in 1983; he was commissioned as a Second | ||||||
8 | Lieutenant on May 9, 1986 after completing the Reserve Officer | ||||||
9 | Training Corps program at Northeast Missouri State University; | ||||||
10 | in 1988, he transferred to the United States Army to serve as | ||||||
11 | an air defense artillery officer; in 1991, he joined the | ||||||
12 | Illinois National Guard to serve as the assistant air defense | ||||||
13 | coordination officer with the 1st Battalion of the 202nd Air | ||||||
14 | Defense Artillery Regiment; during his service, he supported | ||||||
15 | military operations in Poland, Turkey, and Germany; he also | ||||||
16 | deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from | ||||||
17 | June of 2005 to June of 2006 and to Afghanistan from September | ||||||
18 | of 2012 to June of 2013 in support of Operation Enduring | ||||||
19 | Freedom; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Michael Zerbonia and his wife, Diane, have one | ||||||
21 | son, Dominic; he is also a huge Oakland Raiders fan and a part | ||||||
22 | of the Raider Nation; and

1 | WHEREAS, Michael Zerbonia will be remembered fondly by his | ||||||
2 | fellow ISP officers for his organizational pride of the | ||||||
3 | Illinois State Police, for proudly wearing his uniform daily, | ||||||
4 | and for being a hardworking and extremely energetic State | ||||||
5 | Trooper; therefore, be it
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
7 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
8 | congratulate Colonel Michael Zerbonia on the occasion of his | ||||||
9 | retirement from the Illinois State Police, we wish him well on | ||||||
10 | his new assignment as the Assistant Adjutant General - Army of | ||||||
11 | the Illinois National Guard, and we wish him continued success | ||||||
12 | and happiness in the future; and be it further

13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
14 | presented to Michael Zerbonia as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
15 | respect.
