HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate  Colonel Michael Zerbonia 
4on the occasion of his retirement from the Illinois State 
5Police on September 30, 2015, after 28 years of service; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Michael Zerbonia joined the Illinois State Police 
7on September 21, 1987 with his appointment to Cadet Class 82; 
8upon graduating, he was assigned to the District 3 Patrol in 
9Chicago; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Michael Zerbonia was promoted to the rank of 
11Sergeant in 1995; in 1996, he transferred to the Illinois State 
12Police Academy, where he worked to enhance the Academy's 
13physical skills section; in 1999, he was promoted to the rank 
14of Master Sergeant; in 2005, he was promoted to the rank of 
15Lieutenant; in 2009, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and 
16served as the Bureau Chief of Logistics; in 2010, he was 
17selected to serve as Bureau Chief of the Medicaid Fraud Control 
18Unit; in 2011, he was named as District Commander of District 9 
19in Springfield, where he oversaw the Illinois State Fair and 
20State Inaugurations; in 2011, he was appointed to the rank of 
21Lieutenant Colonel; in 2012, he was appointed to the rank of 
22Colonel of the Division of Operations, where he served until 
23his retirement; and

1    WHEREAS, Michael Zerbonia is a Brigadier General in the 
2Illinois Army National Guard and was recently appointed as the 
3Assistant Adjutant General - Army; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Prior to his appointment as the Assistant Adjutant 
5General - Army, General Zerbonia was the Land Forces Component 
6Commander; he enlisted as a military policeman in the Missouri 
7Army National Guard in 1983; he was commissioned as a Second 
8Lieutenant on May 9, 1986 after completing the Reserve Officer 
9Training Corps program at Northeast Missouri State University; 
10in 1988, he transferred to the United States Army to serve as 
11an air defense artillery officer; in 1991, he joined the 
12Illinois National Guard to serve as the assistant air defense 
13coordination officer with the 1st Battalion of the 202nd Air 
14Defense Artillery Regiment; during his service, he supported 
15military operations in Poland, Turkey, and Germany; he also 
16deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 
17June of 2005 to June of 2006 and to Afghanistan from September 
18of 2012 to June of 2013 in support of Operation Enduring 
19Freedom; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Michael Zerbonia and his wife, Diane, have one 
21son, Dominic; he is also a huge Oakland Raiders fan and a part 
22of the Raider Nation; and

1    WHEREAS, Michael Zerbonia will be remembered fondly by his 
2fellow ISP officers for his organizational pride of the 
3Illinois State Police, for proudly wearing his uniform daily, 
4and for being a hardworking and extremely energetic State 
5Trooper; therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
7NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
8congratulate Colonel Michael Zerbonia on the occasion of his 
9retirement from the Illinois State Police, we wish him well on 
10his new assignment as the Assistant Adjutant General - Army of 
11the Illinois National Guard, and we wish him continued success 
12and happiness in the future; and be it further
  
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14presented to Michael Zerbonia as a symbol of our esteem and 
15respect.
