|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in |
4 | | the lives of Illinois citizens; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Lauren Malmberg |
6 | | is retiring from Peoria County Animal Protection Services |
7 | | (PCAPS), where she served as the Animal Shelter Director; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Lauren Malmberg graduated from the University of |
9 | | Illinois in 2001 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business |
10 | | Management; she went on to earn a Master's Degree in Business |
11 | | Administration from the University of Illinois; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Lauren has been with Peoria County Animal |
13 | | Protection Services for 35 years and served as the Director of |
14 | | the Animal Shelter for the past 30 years; she began her career |
15 | | with PCAPS in 1980 as a clerk before becoming a Kennel Helper |
16 | | in 1981, Animal Control Officer in 1982, Kennel Officer in |
17 | | 1983, and finally Animal Shelter Director in 1985; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Lauren Malmberg is currently on the Board of |
19 | | Directors of the Illinois Animal Welfare Federation, the County |
20 | | Animal Controls of Illinois, the Peoria Humane Society, and the |
21 | | National Disaster Animal Response Team; she has further served |

1 | | her community by offering her leadership and expertise as a |
2 | | member of the National Animal Control Association, the American |
3 | | Humane Association, and the Society of Animal Welfare |
4 | | Administrators; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Lauren Malmberg's commitment to the humane |
6 | | treatment of animals has been recognized by her Partners in |
7 | | Peace Award, her Ducky Award, and her Judy Lasco Volunteer of |
8 | | the Year Award from the Center for Prevention of Abuse; she |
9 | | gained further recognition from InterBusiness Issues as one of |
10 | | "40 Leaders Under Forty"; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, In executing the duties of the Animal Shelter |
12 | | Director for PCAPS over the past 3 decades, Lauren Malmberg has |
13 | | committed incalculable time and energy into the interpretation |
14 | | and enforcement of animal control codes, administration of a |
15 | | multi-million dollar division budget, and negotiation with |
16 | | local veterinary and municipal agencies; she further committed |
17 | | to the duties of her station by assisting in animal rescue |
18 | | following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and for mass animal |
19 | | impoundment in Madison, Wisconsin in 2009; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Under the direction of Lauren Malmberg, PCAPS |
21 | | established a program to sterilize adopted animals prior to |
22 | | release, increased rabies licenses from 28,000 to 39,000 |
23 | | animals, coordinated design and provided oversight for the |
|

1 | | construction of a 7,200 square-foot animal shelter and 1,800 |
2 | | square-foot education center, published articles on animal |
3 | | control and welfare issues in NACA News and the ASPCA's Animal |
4 | | Watch, actively encouraged local volunteer initiatives, and |
5 | | advocated adamantly for changes to State laws regarding the |
6 | | protection of animals; therefore, be it
|
7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
8 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
9 | | honor Lauren Malmberg and wish her the best of luck in her |
10 | | retirement; and be it further

11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
12 | | presented to Lauren Malmberg as an expression of our esteem.
